The Role
I throughly enjoyed the experience. Whilst initially I worried that the impact of Covid-19 would negatively impact my experience, I believe it enriched my learning
I felt valued in such a high role for my age. Whilst it took time to gain respect from my colleagues, as with any job, I believe I had the company’s backing from the staff in my role.
Throughout my year, I was provided with a supportive mentor. Through my mentors guidance, I have learnt a lot about the various roles within the job. Weekly sit downs to assess my learning and progression gave me clear goals to aim towards. My mentor has made me engaged in the role. Keeping me interested in applying for The graduate role next year.
Most days were filled with a range of tasks, some completed solo and others with my mentor. I was entrusted with a lot of tasks day to day, which helped make me organised.
I was gradually given more responsibility as I performed. I believe this was the best way as it prevented me becoming overwhelmed with information. I always had the opportunity to ask questions and gain help if I needed it
Taking a ‘People Management’ module in my final year will be greatly benefitted by all I have learnt this year.
The Company
Whilst I visited a number of offices and stores, all I attended were welcoming to me.
I had a week by week planner to refer to, which helped to plan when I had to be where. Covid slightly interrupted this, but this is to be expected, and Aldi dealt with this well.
I have frequent reviews with my mentor to support me and had the ability to train in any areas I showed interest in (e.g. disciplinary hearings)

I am excited to complete my final year of university and apply for the graduate role. A constantly developing and evolving business such as Aldi is one I would like to invest myself in.
The Culture
As the only placement student I had limited involvement with any other students. I only met other placement students was on the opening day. However I was invited to two work Christmas events.
Fairly cheap, however I lived at home and commuted so I was not affected.
Again, I lived from home so my involvement was limited in this. I tended to return back to university for this.
Some activities such as “Day Outs” and Christmas events, however due to Covid, these were understandably stopped.
