    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I loved my placement at TW. Despite it being virtual, we got an amazing opportunity to know the firm, the people, and gain an insight into what it would be like to work there. There were lots of fun activities, skills sessions, networking events - a real great mix of everything.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued at the firm. Even with the fact that the scheme got cut down to one week instead of two, we were still given work to do, and the firm clearly invested a lot of time into organising a packed programme. The skills sessions also illustrated that the firm cared about our own personal development.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The guidance and support we received was great. We were paired up with both a supervisor (who gave us work and helped us with departmental projects), and a trainee buddy, who acted as a general friend and mentor. The other trainees and associates at the firm were all really friendly and approachable as well.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills sessions on innovation and on effective collaboration have definitely helped me clarify how to improve as a person and develop my professional skills. Moreover, the guidance and feedback I received on my projects and assessments will certainly help me in a future career in law, wherever that may be.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Considering the scheme was virtual, due to the Covid - 19 crisis, the scheme was exceptionally well structured. We had a clear timetable, packed full of insightful presentations, networking events, social activities, and departmental meetings. It was a great combination of everything you would want on an insight scheme to be honest.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was lovely - whether with the trainees, the graduate recruitment team, more senior employees at the firm or with my fellow vacation scheme students, i always felt comfortable and welcomed. TW employees were all approachable and very generous with their time, regardless of what they had going on.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Yes it certainly did. Not only did we get a lot of information on each department on the firm as part of Taylor Wessing's 'Focus on' sessions, we also had in - depth discussions as to what the role of a trainee in each department is, and we had a question and answer session with all the trainees

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight scheme was very helpful in helping me understand the company culture. Not only were we introduced to a lot of the internal committees and networks that exist at Taylor Wessing, but we also spoke to the firm's employees, in all different departments. It was clear that the firm is a warm and enjoyable place to work.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the vacation scheme was very helpful in helping me decide on my future career path. The focus on sessions during the vacation scheme gave us an insight into all different areas of the firm, and really clarified what working in each different department would be like. As such, I feel much more informed of the career path I want to go on.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were lots of opportunity for networking and meeting other employees during the Taylor Wessing vacation scheme. There were virtual pub quizzes and virtual networking socials throughout the week. There was also small group presentations, where I, with a few other trainees, met with senior associates practising in departments that we were interested in.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • During the vacation scheme, there were many opportunities to find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. Through the networking events organised throughout the vacation scheme, we managed to come into contact with so many different employees, who told us at great length about the different extra-curricular activities at the firm.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would certainly recommend the Taylor Wessing vacation scheme to a friend. It was an incredible experience - lots of fun, got to meet loads of nice people, really interesting and challenging (in a good way), and has helped me understand better what areas of law I'd like to specialise in
