The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at BMW UK, where I worked as the Brand na Launch Commincations Assistant for 13 months. Right from the start, you get given real responsibility and real projects to work on. You are made to feel part of a community where personal and profesioinal development is valued highly. I enjoyed every day!
Working in the BMW UK Marketing Department has made me feel highly valued. We have team meetings, catch-ups and days out of the office regualrly to help us bond. Managers and other colleages are always happy to take the time out of their day to offer a helping hand, could ask for more.
Being an intern, we work very closely with our managers, who are always willing to help. At BMW UK we have a 1 month handover period where we work with the previous intern and our managers very closely, to ensure that we are confident and comfortable when starting our new job. I often have 2 catch-ups a week with my manager.
As a person, I love to be busy and I think that a sign of a good internship / placement is the fact that you are busy. As we get given real responsibilities at BMW, I was kept busy everyday and therefore new that I had new challenges to face everyday in the office - something that really excited me.
As the brand and launch communications assistant, I was given te chance to manage 3 national brand campaigns (with support of course!). This provided me with a huge amount of expereince in every aspect of national campaign management, meetings agenciees, managing stakeholders, adhereing to timelines. I was amazing to bring a campaign to life from the idea stage right until it is live across social media.
I have developed a plethora of skills this year, that will help me in both my personal and professional life. Going back to Uni, I feel completely equiped with a high degree of comercial awareness and a thorough understanding of how real life business works - I feel very confident about my final year uni moduels. Beyond my degree, I have learnt life skills in organisation and leadership that will help in all aspects of life.
The Company
At BMW UK, we have a 'home clothes' policy and value flexible working. This helps to create a very relaxed (yet proffesiona) office. We have a number of societies that are also run within BMW UK, that help to provide a productive break from your day - coffee clubs, running clubs etc
The internships is perfeclty oragnised and could not be run better. BWM UK are veyr used to having students on their placement years and know what makes us tick. They ensure that we are all professionally trained and support you through your year and beyond, always with your best interests at heart.
BMW offers a huge array of different lessons / classes that can be taken within working hours (to provide a small break fromt eh day to day) that encompass everything from negotiation to excel to leadership. BMW ensure that you keep learning for the whole year and develop as many skills as possible.

Very appealing. BMW is a fantastic company to work for at the forfront of the automotive industry - which with electric and hybrid cars being all the rage at the moment, this is a very exciting space to work in. BMW offers a fantastic grad scheme that I hope to take part in!
The Culture
BMW has a variety of employee lead clubs within our campus, including running clubs and coffee clubs, all helping to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere. We also take the time, every so often to get togetehr as a department to have a fun and get to know each other a bit more.
The cost of living is not too expensive as you are just outside of London, however you have all the perks on living in London. The local areas are very affordable and if you really want to flash the cahs then a shopping trip in london is not far away!
I lived in an area called Camberley, in Surrey. There is loads going on in the local area and being in Surrey, you are only a short trains journey away from London, where there is all the nightlight you could ever want! A great social scene with loads of cool venues.
Outside of work, BMW has a football club that people from all deparemtns et invovled in, which is a great way to get rid of some energy whilst meeting some new people. THe surrounding area also has loads of open mic nights and sports clubs to get involved in too.
