The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Travelport, it was great being placed into a close knit team. I loved the fact all the interns also worked together closely to raise money for our two chosen charities and really making a difference by completing 'Make Your Mark Days' with other Travelport employees.
My manager definitely made me feel like a valued member of my team and so did my other team members. We all got along very well as friends as well as colleagues. We often had coffee breaks together, went out for a team lunch on the occasion and organised some get togethers outside work.
In the first few weeks of my placement i was not given any particular support by my manager and all of my training was delegated to the intern that i was replacing. After the first three weeks, my old intern left and i did feel like i could've been given more guidance and training in order to learn tasks that would be more useful to the team.
In the first few months of my placement i did have days where i was bored as there was not much work given to me. I only had set weekly tasks every friday, and other days of the week would depend on if a team member had work to give me. After the first six months, my loadload definitely began to pick up more as y manager would start giving me more jobs which was good.
In the first six months of my placement i was not given much responsibility- i was usually given very easy and manual tasks to complete. After the first six months, my manager and team members made me responsible for more tasks such as developing and creating different types of reports.
Although i have enjoyed my placement at Travelport, i feel like i definitely could've recieved better training for my job role. I have developed some skills on excel and powerpoint, however, i feel like i will still need more specific training of various BI services in order to successfully get a job after i graduate. I have had to teach myself some skills this year by watching youtube videos etc.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great, everyone is really friendly and up for a chat and many employees are willing to help the interns develop by giving us more insight to other areas of business in Travelport. Employees always supported us when we were trying to reach our target goal of £10,000 for our chosen charities.
The placement was very well organised, we were contacted by our teams before we joined and we had many meetings at the beginning of the placement to explain what the year will consist of. Each month the interns had 3 hour long development sessions such as networking, communication and how to work with different personality types.
The company definitely invested resources into the interns at Travelport by bringing people from external companies to help us develop individually. For instance, each month we had a half day development session and each month was different. A few of the development sessions we had were public speaking, how to achieve goals, networking.

Future prospects with Travelport are appealing as i like the atmosphere in the workplace and i'm already familiar with the work. If i was offered a graduate job at Travelport i would be likely to take it, depending on if i was given more training and support and if it was in the same role/team.
The Culture
At the beginning of the placement, alot of effort was made for the interns to socialise amongst one another by having a BBQ and alumni event and going to Windsor and Ascot races. However as time passed, we socialised less. The internswho relocated to slough/langley socialised together more often than those who lived at home.
The cost of living in the area is relatively expensive, however it is much cheaper than living in London. I can't comment too much on the cost of living as i lived at home with my parents for the duration of the placement. Socialising was fairly expensive, a double vodka coke at Atik Windsor is about £8 so it adds up.
The nightlife in Langley and Slough is non-existent so if the interns wanted to go on a night out, they would either have to go to Atik in Windsor, Reading or London which was definitely expensive to do and it was harder to get home due to limited night trains.
Travelport have a social club where they organise an event for the club members each month such as going to the theatre, go karting, paintballing, escape rooms etc. There is a leisure centre that is a five minute drive from the office which has a gym, swimming pool and fitness classes. There was also a football league that the men played in each week
