The Role
Great team, the kindest people ever, and very supportive. Oppurtinites to develop beyond your department if you ask, you can shadow different departments and have opportunities to ask the MD questions in step up meetings.
Get asked opinions on decisions in the department and choices on marketing campaigns and the company website. Restructuring and designing company spreadsheets and the way data is handled. When the team does really well get taken out to a pub dinner, and theres always confectionary about
Allowed to take as much time as needed to learn new skills, and given work to build on those skills, whatever you wanted to learn they made sure you got a chance to do it. They would ask other colleagues or suppliers if they can't give you that chance, I wanted to learn more excel and from someone experienced so my manager asked one of our suppliers if I could shadow them for a day and they said yes.
Some days were really busy and some days were quiet, but not completely nothing because you could use that time to learn or do uni work. It never got too busy where you were overwhelmed, my manager would understand and not set definitive deadlines and if it was important with a deadline he would help out.
Theres a lot to learn so dont expect a lot at the start, but as you get familiar with the work the responsibility increases.
I learnt excel macros and real life marketing skills and business making decisions. Not a lot of my degree and theories had a role in my job but the skills and experience gained from this placement was a lot more useful to me.
The Company
A lot of people work from home especially on fridays so can get quiet. The kitchen has a whiteboard that people like to make fun comments on and a funcom gets sent out every other friday which is kinda funny
Get to do a charity fundraiser in the second half of the placement year which helps to get to know other students and helps build your uni work.
So much online training, training days, shadowing departments, meeting suppliers and getting an insight into what work they do.
