The Role
It was extremely enjoyable from start to finish
I felt extremely welcome at the firm - everyone from trainees to associates and partners as well as all the support staff made me feel really welcome and relaxed.
Always felt I could ask them on a point I didn't udnerstand as well as having a few trainees in each seat who I felt very relaxed around to ask questions and advice.
There was only ever one afternoon where I found myself without work to do and all fee earners were busy. However, this didn't last for very long and was soon given two to three different assignments to start on and complete the next day.
I was probably given more responsibility in my second seat but that I suspect was only due to the nature of the work and the current deals the firm was working on that I could be involved with. I was checking over a few different agreements, some which had been sent to the other side's lawyers so I needed to check they had included our comments. Also, I drafted a letter that got sent to the Frankfurt office.
It was an invaluable insight into what life will be like as a city lawyer.
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed yet professional. Everyone was working hard but at the same time people would often stop by each other's office to have a quick catch up - either work-related or social. You could tell everyone was part of the same team here.
The placement was very well organised. There was a packed itinerary of events yet still gave us plenty of time to experience each seat and get a real feel for the different work you would experience as a trainee.
I felt they did care about how I understood the work and got me involved in different tasks I hadn't tried before, so developing new skills. I was also offered feedback on a number of bits of work I had completed.

Company Parties/Events
I am not gong to tick all the stars yet as I don't know if I got the job! We were automatically considered for the training contract though and the assessments were nicely spread across the two-week placement.
The Culture
Yes - a number of events that were really enjoyable and allowed us to get to know current trainees
Well it is central London so prices you would expect - I have only bought my own lunch about 3 times though.
There are lots of bars and restaurants around so plenty to choose form. We also got taken to the all star lanes bowlign alley in brick lane which was really fun!
Well we went on social events - I'm not sure if there are opportunities to get involved in things like ProBono but I'm sure if you asked they would accomodate any interest you may have in finding out what is available.
