The Role
I had a great time. My boss was great and the other employees working around me were really easy to get on with. I felt like i got alot out of the year and have come out a better person. My technical skills have improved drastically and the days passed really quickly.
My boss kept on reassuring me I was doing a good job and always sought out my viewpoint on matters that had a real impact on the work we did. If i was ever to do a piece of work for another colleague, i would always get feedback on how it went wich I really liked.
I was given little support from managers but that was more to do with how i worked. I am very content and happy just to get on with my work so I did not go seeking out that support. I got a lot of support from the company however in turns of education.
To begin I had quite a lot of free time. It was quite sporadic with some days being extremely busy and others with nothing to do. I learned about halfway through to find work and set myself challenges which significantly increased the amount of work I had to do. In the end, i would say i had a lot constantly on.
As time progressed and i proved myself more and more, i got more responsibility. I was always part of big decisions aswell
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed. There were not that many people in the office at any one time so there was not much going on. Group meetings did not happen often employees were walking on different things so collaboration hardly ever happened between people in the office. Everyone was still nice however so it was a pleasant experience.
The placement was very well organized. All interns were given two managers, an epm and a task manager. One was in charge of your day to day tasks while the other was there to make sure your wellbeing was looked after. You were always treated as a full-on employee of the company and not just an intern.

Even though its still very competitive to get a graduate job, the chances are much higher when you had the placement year. You get your application looked at well ahead of anyone else and can end up getting a job offer way before the applications are opened to the public. You also skip various stages of the process.
The Culture
While the town where we worked in was not the best for going out, all the placement students often got together to do various activities. Most lunches were often filled with table tennis or board games. On the weekends we often met up to go to the cinema or pub as well.
