Assembly Intern Review

I really enjoyed this placement. At Rolls-Royce theere is a lot of responsibility and coaching given to interns and they are a massive part of the company. The team i was working with understood these responsibilities and I feel that it is one of the most fulfilling and exciting interships available.

My colleagues throughout were one of the best parts of the placement. I made a great intern network during my time at Rolls-Royce which helped a lot with the job and personally too. I also felt that as my placement went on i became more and more integrated as a full time employee and felt that the colleagues around me thought of me highly and didn't just give me the stuff they didnt want to do.

Management and the colleagues who were above me in my role gave me a lot of coaching throughout. They gave me persoanl advice and improvement areas as well as business related coaching. I feel that without the support i had from the management it wouldnt have been as beneficial and i think that, as mentioned previously, the support and family-like bond i made with the team members around me was an integral part ot my development.

It varied from time to time. It came in waves, but it varied from normal daily busy to extremely busy having to do some extra hours to ensure the work was completed. This was beneficial for me as it taught me a lot about working within a business, and the responsibility that sometimes you have to go above and beyond! This level of workload was only given to me because of the trust that i gained throughout the year and given to me by my higher level colleagues.

As mentioned previously, throughout the placement i was given increasing amounts of responsibility. As i proved myself to be more valuable i was then given increasing amounts of responsibility and more important tasks. Towards the end of my placement, which got extended, i was dealing with highly important tasks which were required for the company.

The skills i have learned will help me throughout the rest of my life. Having a year in an automotive, engineering business has really broadened my vision for the future. It has given me many soft skills which i will definitely be using in my future career and also it has given me insight as to what i want to do in the future. SO much so i am doing my uni project when i go back based on a project at Rolls-Royce.

The atnoshpere in the office was quite professional. I was in an office with mainly management and so it was different to an environment i had been in before. But this was good as it led to better productivity and at times there was light hearted humour, but mainly focused work.

Very well organised. From the first day I had everything i needed. I had the support that i required throughout and didnt feel left on my own ever whilst i was beginning my placement. This made it really worthwhile, when i wasnt sure about taking the placement in the first place.

My manager invested a lot of time in 1-2-1 sessions for my personal improvement. He gave me feedback and recoomended research i could do to improve. Within the company there wasnt a lot of training i undertook outisde of the regular privacy updates and raining which was compulsory to all employees with laptop access.

I am unsure at the moment. It is an amaxzing company to work for and almost everyone i have spoken to reccomends it. However i am unsure about my personal career and where i want to take it. The prospects are incredibly good within the company however with lots of ways to progress.

Yes there was a good intern network and lots of social events between them. These were organised externally by the interns themselves, but it was nice to get involved in such a lovely place in the UK. It is a lovely place to work and you are never alone with the student network that is made and ensures great efficiency. I also spent some social time with my team as well as i got on very well with them and made connections for life both professionally and socially.

I lived at home as i wasnt very far from Goodwood however it is quite expensive to live in and around the local area. The placement is paid so it isnt too bad but the cost of living is expensive. Also socialising is reasonably expensive too as the area is an expensive area and so much of your wage can end up being spent during the year.

The nightlife is questionable. Chcihester is known for its old heritage and is quite an elderly town. There are a couple of late night pubs and clubs but these are ntohing compared to that you would find surrounding most universities. But its fien for socialising and there are some big cities within a train ride away if you wish.

Yes. the surrounding area has water sports, local sports clubs, shops and much more. It is a quiet little town however it is also very nice and a lovely place to live and work. Its not the hub of social activity but it is certainly not the worst place to live and has things to do if you do some research.
