    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight event, and thought it was well-run and organised given that it had to be virtualised due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The breadth and depth of the sessions were well balanced, and due to the relatively small cohort, there was a chance for everyone to ask questions, which I found helpful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • There was a lot of opportunity to contribute and ask questions, especially with senior members of the firm, who took time out of their day to speak to us about their experience. I also appreciated the effort to have a 'training' session by Training The Street, which lent a more technical edge to the insight event.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was an extremely diverse range of Jefferies professionals from many different divisions who came to speak to us; although the original spring programme was divisional, I did enjoy learning about the other parts of the firm and how they worked together. Moreover, there were many senior members who came to speak to us, which made us feel more valued as a cohort.

    3/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think gaining an insight into other key areas of Jefferies' business, such as Equity Sales, was helpful in narrowing down which area of finance I was interested in. Although I had gotten an offer for the Investment Banking division, I think learning about how the other divisions worked enhanced my appreciation for how Jefferies is run as a whole.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I thought the insight programme was well structured; there was a good balance between breadth and depth for the divisions covered. Moreover, the relatively small cohort of spring interns meant that most people got to ask a question, and there was effort made to choose different people each time so a broad range of people could get their questions answered.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I thought the atmosphere was great; there was a sense of teamwork in that we got to meet some of our spring cohort one on one through the training sessions, which made the virtual programme seem more personal. Moreover, asking questions was strongly encouraged and the Jefferies' professionals genuinely put effort and were interested in answering our questions, which was great.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a training session from 'Training The Street' on how to read the Financial Times, and I thought discussing various articles one on one with a fellow spring intern was valuable, as it allowed us to pick up on insights that the other had. It was a good introduction to what training would be like on the job.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The amount of both junior and senior professionals who joined us for the spring event meant that it was easy to get a sense of how the role progresses as you move further along in your career. Moreover, there was a good mix of divisions covered; e.g. IB, Equity Sales, and Trading.

    3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Every professional who came to speak to us mentioned how unique the culture at Jefferies was, and it seems clear to me that it is a very open workplace, especially regarding diversity and accepting non-traditional subjects. I thought it was a useful insight into what working at Jefferies would really be like.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content cemented my interest for investment banking, especially as I was able to compare it to other divisions at Jefferies. It was great to see that there were junior professionals present, as they had undergone the same process as the spring interns fairly recently, which helped us grasp their career path more.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The spring insight event was unpaid, as it was a remote experience which didn't require travel.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was effort made to include every spring intern into networking sessions, for instance using the breakout room function on Zoom. This meant that there was a good ratio of analyst to spring intern at every level, allowing most people to be able to ask their questions. There was also a good mix of junior and senior networking.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was effort made to include every spring intern into networking sessions, for instance using the breakout room function on Zoom. This meant that there was a good ratio of analyst to spring intern at every level, allowing most people to be able to ask their questions. There was also a good mix of junior and senior networking.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, there was mention of things that both junior and senior professionals did outside work, such as charitable giving, as well as sports teams. It's clear that Jefferies co-workers spend a lot of time together, forming close friendships which allow them to spend time together outside of the office.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend Jefferies as an employer to a friend; there was a good mix of divisions and Jefferies initiatives (such as for women, LGBTQ+, ethnic minorities) covered, there was a good opportunity for junior and senior networking, and effort was clearly made to make the experience as immersive as possible.
