About You
I enjoyed the programme thoroughly. Huge props to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] for creating the in-person experience as best as they could on a virtual level. All guest speakers were super helpful in providing a more in depth insight and they were happy to answer all questions. In fact every session throughout the week would run over as each individual was happy to answer questions and take additional time out of their day to help us out. The insight programme was very enjoyable overall and I commend the trainees who set up a relaxing quiz to aid with the initial ice breaker introductions. it required us to work in teams which I believe was great in order to be able to get to know each other. Overall would most definitely recommend!!!
Honestly, I genuinely felt like I was part of the DLA family. every individual all the way up to CEO [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was more than happy to have a laugh. the number 10 rating which has been given to this question is most definitely not an exaggeration. DLA Piper genuinely value their D&I and love to see progress throughout the ranks with all individuals. I would like to note the final talk we had with [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. Her story resonated with me so much and I loved how much DLA supported her, during her career. the amazing jokes by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and constant asking if we are okay every time we would join a zoom call would further add to feeling valued by the firm. Overall it was amazing.
Once again, DLA went above and beyond in terms of providing support and guidance. Here, I would like to provide credit to all the trainees who took time out of their schedules to create Zoom calls for us to drop into and provide support. The amount of available calls was amazing and it was great to see how many trainees offered their time to help!
This experience has truly been an eye opener into how DLA as such as big firm are able to accommodate the needs of their clients. The skills learnt throughout the scheme will most definitely be applicable towards future prospects. The skills developed I can really say will be able to help me beyond my studies and throughout my legal career. I am excited to build upon what I learnt and develop it further. DLA did an amazing job :)
The Company
The structure of the programme was really great. The grad recruitment team did a fantastic job to ensure there was a clear structure and everything presented to us interns was done so in a manner which would help us with the programme. Great job completed and I appreciate the effort that must have been put in to ensure a smooth programme for us.
The atmosphere was amazing throughout the entire programme. I cannot remember one period of time where there was a lack of energy from any member. Not from the grad recruitment team, the partners or us interns. Everyone always seem genuinely attentive and loved what the speakers had to say. There were always amazing questions being asked and lots of funny jokes to get involved with :)
A lot of investment was made towards us interns. in terms of assessing us, providing us with treats like vouchers and personal development in regards to providing training which came through activities like team exercises. It could clearly be seen that DLA want to have the best individuals working for them and that the investment towards fulfilling that need is definitely one which the firm takes seriously.
there was en entire panel dedicated towards just trainees in which they answered a number of questions which had been sent in by us interns. It gave us a clear insight into the types of roles trainees are required to do, how varies their timetables can be and how supportive the firm is with aiding towards their needs.
the company culture was demonstrated well by everyone who spoke. I could clearly see that the values which DLA are attempting to promote have clearly been instilled into all who work for the firm. The firm is very accepting of every individual and their independent identity and in fact they promote that kind of diversity.
This programme solidified by doubts of whether or not I wanted to become a solicitor. I have loved every minute of it and enjoyed listening to what kind of work a trainee is required to complete. By being given the chance to hear talks from partners, individuals who sit on the executive board and CEO [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] himself, it gave me a broader understanding of what I am getting myself into.
Everything Else
DLA were happy to reimburse any charges that were incurred and paid as well. It shows how much DLA are willing to care about their future trainees as they were willing to pay for any expenses which interns had incurred due to Corona Virus. I commend the firm for these actions.
The entire programme had opportunities for meeting various different individuals who were at all different stages in their career. By doing so it provided a much clearer insight into how different work varies and what the roles of certain departments can require you to do as a solicitor and therefore I would recommend getting onto this internship without a doubt!
There were social events, and we were given vouchers so we can enjoy the company of those around us, even if it was from a virtual stand point. The trainees provided us with a quiz and we were required to work in teams to try and come first. We also had the opportunity to meet partners in our designated offices.
I found out about a lot of clubs and groups that DLA offer for their employees to get involved with. Examples can be seen as clubs such as football, netball, cricket and even a choir. DLA are also open to new recommendations or ideas that individuals may have. the current activities that are available are not limited by any means.
Most definitely and without a doubt. this experience has really been an eye opener and it demonstrated to me a lot of what is required to be successful in a firm like DLA. The programme was very insightful and to anyone who has any doubts about DLA being a negative firm, rest assured that they are not.
