About You
It was an extremely interesting and informative internship. Despite being online, the sessions were well managed and we always got time to ask questions at the end. I felt like I still got the same quality experience as if it was in London or in the Leeds office. Great experience.
It was harder to have a personal experience because of being on zoom. However, I still felt valued as an intern, and felt I got the chance to ask questions and get to know the team. It was made as personal as possible, so I still felt as though we developed friendships and relationships.
I felt supported throughout the internship. I knew I could email or call with any problems I may have had, as well as get in touch with any of the employees involved in the placement. Despite not needing much guidance, the option was always there if I needed it which was great.
The information received was extremely informative. As a second year law student, I was worried I would not be able to make an informed decision about my career path over zoom. However, the sessions and the contacts I made has helped me to make informed choices about where I want to go and what I want to do.
The Company
Despite some sessions running overtime, I felt it was well structured. The team always made sure we had time with all the people who talked to us and also had time for breaks. They understood how difficult it was to spend lots of time staring at a screen on zoom.
The general atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The team made sure we were comfortable in sessions. The zoom meetings felt personal despite not seeing one another in person. I did not feel anxious to attend any meetings and looked forward to spending time learning about DLA Piper and the offices.
The sessions were more about the firm in general and about what it would be like to join DLA Piper. However, I did feel that the team was extremely invested in helping us to make the right decision about our futures, and to inform us of the skills we would need to be successful as a commercial lawyer.
Despite being on zoom, I feel I have a very good idea of what it would be like to have a full time role in the firm. The atmosphere was really welcoming and the work set was fun and interesting. Therefore, I feel I have a reasonable understanding of working in the firm,
The insight was extremely helping in me understanding the company culture. It was made clear by everyone we spoke to what the firm is about. The opinions were always consistent and the descriptions were explained well. I am really happy with the information given to us about the company culture.
The experience was valuable in helping me to decide on my future career path. I feel I know more about commercial law and what it is like to be a commercial lawyer in practice. I understand what a working day looks for each level of the firm which helps me to make informed decisions about my future.
Everything Else
I feel I was paid fairly and adequately for the internship. I did not need to ask for any expenses to be reimbursed but the option was there if I needed to do so which was excellent. The amount paid was excellent for what we were asked to do in the week.
There were opportunities to network and meet other employees, all of which were done via zoom or phone call. I found that I had to reach out to people sometimes, but this was just the same as going into the office and finding people to talk to. Therefore, I feel I got the same experience as being at the office.
The networking and social event opportunities were great. There were less social events than expected but fitting all the content into one week must have been really challenging. I found all the events to be well planned and were extremely relaxing. It was great to meet so many people and future employees.
I did find out about activities that you can get involved with outside of the workplace. Many of the trainees emphasised the excellent of the social network outside of working hours which made me feel as though I can have a good work/life balance. There was lots of information in this area.
I would definitely recommend this experience to a friend. It was extremely informative and interesting and gave me an opportunity to learn more about commercial law working in practice. It also has given me the opportunity to make decisions about my future and what I want from my future workplace.
