The Role
This placement is extremely rewarding. If you fully commit to the year I have no doubt that you will enjoy and get so much out of it. I have without doubt improved in every aspect as a person.
Extremely valued. From the minute you start the placement you feel part of the Aldi family. You will receive constant feedback from store managers and have constant communication with your mentor and Director.
As above you become fully trained on all processes with clear action plans in place throughout the year. I had regular weekly updates with both the Store Manager and Area Manager of the stores I was training in. I also had bi-monthly updates with my Director and throughout the year updates with the MD.
Very busy - it is Aldi! It was a good busy though, never was I sat twiddling my thumbs thinking what to do next. The hours, days and weeks fly by no matter if it is during store time, out with Area Managers or when completing project work. There is always things to learn and get yourself stuck in to.
I would argue that there is no placement out there that offers as much responsibility as this. Within two months I was running shifts and managing a team of 20/30 people. When out with Area Managers, if they think you are good they will provide you with a lot of responsiblity, to effectively have a massive say in running their area. Then when on project work we were given even more responsibility on a regional level and often reporting in to directors with tasks required with short deadlines and to a significant standard.
Without a doubt I have developed all skills. When returning to study my degree I will have been 'Aldified'. I imagine my time management and dedication to my degree will be massively improved.
The Company
I was not in head office very often due to COVID-19 however in store the atmosphere in the office is friendly and most of the store staff want to see you achieve the best you can.
Very well. At the start of the year we were given an action plan for the whole year. We knew where we would be every day of the year placement. There is some room for change to suit the needs of the business and due to the pandemic, however it was always well organised.
A lot. I was set up on an action plan and had a lot of training throughout my year. This involved online training but mainly was face-to-face training.
Financial Bonus
Significant. I believe that if you do very well on the placement year there is the opportunity to come back as a Trainee Area Manager and also there are grad jobs even if you do not do the IP year. I am still waiting to find out if I have got the job.
The Culture
Limited due to how busy we were. However I got on very well with my fellow placement student and would class him as a good friend now.
I lived in Leeds in a student house. It would be the same as uni.
Its Leeds so very good - however you won't have too much spare time to go clubbing!
Limited, but if you wanted to set up a charity event this is encouraged to support Teenage Cancer Trust.
