The Role
I enjoyed my placement thoroughly due to the diverse culture and a team which has allowed me to open up and be myself where my opinion is valued. The values of IBM align greatly with mine and this has led me to feel comfortable within my role and take on any challenge.
I felt valued throughout my placement and have received some great feedback, advice and experience through out my year. More notably having ,my opinion valued and given the chance to do real work helping solve real problems for a client has been very fullfilling. The overall experience has given me great confidence in my ability.
I was given support and guidance throughout my time at IBM which helped me greatly in progressing through my placement year. I was offer both support in my role and outside of my role with any task/ project I was able to work on. The support and abundance of learning is very valuable for an early professional.
I was very busy which I think is good and this works for me. My role did have a good workload and a god portion of the work was real work for clients and my team which I enjoyed most. Even though I was busy I still found time to take part in giveback and build a strong network thoughout.
You are given a lot of responsibility as a placement student from day 1 - but this was not without the correct guidance and development. When they really say you will be doing real work for real clients they are right and lot of the projects I was exposed too really showed me tech being used for good.
I am looking forward to taking my skills and knowledge back to University and apply my new was of working into a University environment. My drive and commitment to my studies will be increased directly due to my time at IBM which has beenon of the best year of my life so far.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very good and everyone was friendly. I enjoyed commuting up to London and enjoyed toe social side off things which I think is also important. The office layout is very good and it allows you to really communicate and build relationship with your colleagues which is crucial.
The work placement for University student such as myself was very well set -up and you can see by the selection process and stages that there has been a lot of planning and thought gone into the placement scheme. You are offered support and multiple pieces of guidance through out.
The firm invest a lot in you - for example I had the opportunity to go to Dublin to take part in a seller academy which was very insightful for me as a young early professional. A side from that you are paid well and there is hundreds of different courses and learning activities which you can take part in.

The Culture
There was a very good social scene between the interns a there are so many of us you are bound to find some friends for life. There are also events such as the Christmas party which was a lot of fun and all of the interns got together and celebrated.
The living cost of London is quite high but I was lucky as I did not have to pay rent - but the ticket was also expensive. This is to be expected though as it is the capital city - I would suggest saving some of the money you receive upfront such as the sign on bonus.
The nightlife was pretty good with lots of bars and restraint in the area.
There was multiple activities to get involved in outside of work and sporting events.
