The Role
My placement involved external activities outside my role where I was able to explore other opportunities that was supported by the company and the team. I have enjoyed my day to day role, being involved in all activities, but also enjoyed the fact I was able to be flexible and pushed to develop my skill set and knowledge.
My team and I have developed a close relationship where I feel comfortable talking about difficulties at work for example. They have been welcoming, friendly and inclusive.
The support and guidance I have been given has been fantastic. All my questions were answered and my concerns were listened to. They have given me space to develop and choose my own direction with their guidance.
This role definitely challenged my organisation skills. There were times I have been very busy, although my team has been kind and helpful enough to balance the workload. Also, my manager always help me prioritise work and is always there when I need it.
I feel grateful that my team have put trust in me to give me responsibilities. As an intern, I was given a lot of responsibility and was left to use my initiative to complete tasks and projects.
The skills I gained from the IBM placement will definitely assist with degree studies and beyond. My placement happened during the Covid-19 pandemic and this has aided my flexibility and adaptability. I have learnt from IBMers in all industries (e.g. financial, retail) and this knowledge will aid me understand the wider world in the future. My training included a lot of transferrable skills, not just internal to IBM. For example, Excel, NPS, Agile and Design Thinking.
The Company
I was located in Southbank and the atmosphere was definitely not what I was expected! It was very relaxed, welcoming and never dull. Every employee welcomes you with a smile and you will be surrounded with a lot of interns that you'll be able to build relationships with
The internship was very well organised. There were 2 managers for each intern, the induction went smoothly, there were constant communication and updates.
