The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much, I had a variety of responsibilities all of which will be relevant to whatever career I pursue after I finish my time at university. The majority of staff were welcoming and extremely easy to get along with. The graduate team that will place you are very dedicated and will help you in the process from start to finish. Placement activities will help you develop as a person as a professional.
I felt very valued by the colleagues on my contract and they were always readily available to provide assistance, support and push me further. I felt like a valuable member of the team and integrated myself into the day to day activities very quickly. if there was something that needed doing, they knew they could ask me and I would attempt to solve the problem just as well as someone who had been there numerous years.
the support put in place by management was very well structured. I had a dedicated training plan that had me working in one function from September to decemeber and another function from January to late august. The training plan had set out many tasks and activities and I was trained on all the relevant databases/programs I needed to be in order to develop and provide value to the company and our customers on the contract.
I was very busy at all times, either with completing my annual objectives set out by management or completing day-to-day activities that were necessary to do each day. This spanned from weekly reports, providing solutions to customers, working with procurement, operations all the way to conducting process improvements via macros or excel work, something that developed substantially from novice to advanced. there was always something for me to do and I was encouraged if I didn't have work on to help someone else out.
I was given a lot of responsibility in my year but it was done progressively which I appreciate. I was thrown in the deep end but could easily ask for help from my colleagues who would explain what I needed to do or could do better in order to deal with my responsibilities well. Once I had done the activities a few times, I could be left to do it by myself but again speak to my colleagues if I still needed help.
During my placement, not only did I develop personal skills like teaching year 10 children what skills they will need for employement in the future, but I developed substantially as a professional. I worked closely with first, second and third tier suppliers in order to solve queries, helped the customer when they needed assistance and worked with my colleagues to provide the best value to the customer. I achieved a lot that I can take forward with me in life.

The Culture
I was on a contract with someone on the graduate scheme. We had started our time together and the placement students and grad schemers do their 3-day induction together, therefore we became very close and there was a great relationship between us, even though there was a large age difference and difference in the work we were doing. Me and the other placement students across the country met numerous times during the year and all became very close.
