    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really liked to be part of a good logistics team. My colleges were all very frienldy and professional. I was able to gain a lot of experiences and detailed insights. I did like how our internal and external communication worked and being part of a bigger whole. As BMW being an international company I got to work with a load of interesting people from all around the work, was able to improve my skills and challenged in many ways.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team had a vast understanding of taking care and helping oneanother out. They treat each other with respect and always keep a professional and kind attitude. In stressful situations we stood together and knew that we could rely onto another. I was supported or helped whenever I needed and everyone was very open-minded. I was thought new things and never rejected or disregarded. I really enjoyed working with my team over the whole internship

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The supervisors and management introduced themselves to me on my first day at work. They made clear to follow an open communication flow and to be happy to help me anytime. I never felt less worthy or disregarded by them but encouraged and motivated. Once in a while I was able to talk to them personally and to get an update on my work. The supervisors and management are very friendly peolple and keen on supporting the team and individuals.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • From day onwards I was trained to work in the daily tasks. This means I was always needed and felt like I was an important member of the team. Usually the mornings were quite busy with daily workloads to be finished and the afternoons more stressless. Whenever I worked overtimes I got the opportunity to balance my wokring hours and take the rest that I needed. I somtimes felt stressed but never to a bad extent. I quite liked being busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From my first day at work I was told that responsibility is a shared matter in our team. No one has had to stand up alone against whatever happened. I always felt the support from my colleges and still was responsible for my own tasks. Over the time I was entrusted more and more things and became more confindent in my doing. I always felt important to the team and responsible for our overall work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My studies have had nothing to do with my placement at BMW - taskwise. But I gained a lot of important skills I never thought I would have. I wanted to have a look outside the fields of my studies and managed to become a more efficient, stress-resilient and outcome-orientated worker. I learned many things due to the good team I was in. I had a really good time working with the company in England.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in our office was very good balanced. During the offical working hours everyone was focused on getting things done and being efficient. At lunch we all gathered together and enjoyed a nice chat with anyone who would joyn. When working in groups or smaller teams we managed to get solutions very quickly and be productive without being too serious. I always had fun going to work and always liked being part of my office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Prior to working I struggled a bit with having a proper communication with HR. I was missing my contract and my calls remained unanswered sometimes. However, I always was able to speak to my future supervisors and tell them about any problems occuring. I was supported and managed to solve everything just in time before I started working with the company. By the end of my placement all important informations and certificates were passed to me.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Beginning this year I was trained from the first day onwards how to fulfill my daily tasks and the workload. I got personals training from my colleges and always had the opportunity to ask questions. The company per se did not invest in me in matters of workshops or external trainings but all happened rather intnerally within the team. Whenever needed I could report to my supervisors or the management and request a more detailed training. Howver, that was not the case.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to work with the company again - either in the same plant or international wide. After I finished I was replaced with a new intern. This means my time with the company was fixed and not open for extension of my placement. I was aware of that from the beginning but whished to stay longer especially because I really enjoyed working with my team. The opportunity of getting hired again is likely.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I did not get to know much of any fellow placement students but was close with my colleagues. I liked to talk to them during breaks or at lunch. Everyone was very friendly and supporting espacially during the first few weeks. In our free time we used to hang out and had good conversations and fun. Outside of the organisation and the working hours we were able to become friends and have a good laugh every now and then.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Where I lived the standard of living was very good - not too high and not too low but a good balance. The daily life was not very expensive but prices for rent were quite high. However, I never had problemes finacial wise and got to manage everything pretty good. I did not have to save money to an exessive extent but was able to allow myself nice things such as a good night out, new clothes or something more special.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The city I lived in had a very broad party scene with many clubs and pubs/ bars and you would always find the right people to enjoy a good night out. Due to Covid-19 outbreak a nation-wide lockdown was called and many restaurants/ bar/ clubs remained closed over weeks. However, that was nothing the city could be hold responsible for and thus I really really enjoyed the Nightlife in and around the area I worked.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company offers many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. Also many of my collegues did ask me to join them after work. They were all very open-minded people with a welcoming attitude. Whenever I got time I participated in such activities but never really did them on a daily basis. However, I know that a lot of people from my office and other departments do quite enjoy such activities as golfing, etc.
