Finance Placement Student Review

I really enjoyed working in my team, everyone was so friendly and kind, and very generous with their time and explaining things. However, the nature of the work was quite repetitive and tedious at times. Sometimes you would spend a lot of time on a piece of work and then never get a reply or know how your work has been used by other business partners which is not very rewarding. But overall a good positive experience.

As soon as we joined we were made to feel welcome, my line manager adjusted the seating plan so we sat closer to the team and were made to feel more part of it. Whenever we completed work for our colleagues they would always express their thanks and appreciation. They would also give up their time to explain things to us if we were stuck, and encouraged us to always ask them questions if we didn't understand.

Whenever I asked for help my line manager was always their to answer my questions and give me advice. We sat right next to eachother so her help would always be instant. At times, my line manager would have a very heavy work load and so I knew I should wait before I ask her for help, but I guess that happens at all companies and is just part of the process. My manager would always send us useful resources via email.

There were periods where I was very busy, working 8 am to 6 pm working hard to meet tight deadlines. But there was also more quiet times where I didn't have any work to complete - this was not a regular occurrence however. And when I didn't have any work to complete there was always training resources available for me to complete which helped pass time. My manager always would find something for me to do.

At the start of the placement year, we were not given much responsibility. However, as we learnt new skills and became more comfortable in our tasks, the level of responsibility increased to a good level. There was a nice balance between wok not being too stressful, but also challenging and important. If the work given to us was any more important it would have been to stressful and not as rewarding for both of us.

The skills I learnt during my placement year are not very relevant to my degree in economics. However, I believe the skills will e very useful in the future when I start my career and throughout my career. Becoming experienced in excel will definitely be very useful, as will my greater understanding of business operations. My presentation skills have also improved drastically which will help me at University and also in my career when I have to deliver speeches.

It was a nice atmosphere everyone was very friendly and would say hello, but there was not much laughter or light hearted messing around. Everyone was quite serious with their work and so there was never much chatting throughout the day. For peoples birthdays we would take time out and eat cake and chat for a period of time but then it would be back to work and quite a serious atmosphere again, which wasn't the best.

very well organised from start to finish. We had induction days at the start where we met other placement students working in different areas of the business. We also had corporate social responsibility days where we were allowed to volunteer in the local community along with other placement students. There was also a placement project organised where we had to come up with a new product/ initiative for the company before presenting it to senior directors.

I attended numerous training days throughout the year which were paid for by my company. These ranged from a two day energy for performance day, to mental health awareness training. The training days were ran very well and they provided many useful resources. We were also taken out for meals on a couple of occasions free of expense, and any travel we required ( out of travelling directly to work) would be reimbursed by the company.

There are lots of graduate jobs within this company which are all very appealing . They pay a high salary in comparison to competitors and they give you a far amount of responsibility making the jobs very appealing. All graduate scheme jobs come with training courses so you learn whilst on the job which I also find to be very appealing. However, due to the current climate I am not sure how many of these graduate schemes are currently available.

Yes there was, we went on nights out together and we had a group chat for organising outings and events which took place each month. As therewasnt many clubs to go to in Maidenhead, we would often go to Reading for nights out, or to someone's house. All the placement students I met were so friendly and nice and we formed a rally close community of people. I was not expecting to make such good friends.

Maidnehead is also not to far from London so often we would get trsin into London for nights out where there is loads of bars and clubs.
