The Role
Working for Pure Biofuel has been a great experience! You are welcomed into a team who are friendly and open to teaching you new skills. Plus, the company encourages you to come up with your own plans and ideas, which is highly rewarding once you see them implemented. Having the opportunity to be part of an industry which is growing rapidly, is very exciting as it feels as though you are on the cusp of higher success. Hence it could be YOU who makes the next big step in propelling the company forward, this alone was something I felt my whole time working there, as the growth I and the company experienced in a matter of 10 months was phenomenal. If you are someone who loves new innovation and have a forward thinking mindset, I could not recommend this placement enough. As when you look back and see how far the company has come, you can say 'I was a part of that'.
Due to it being a small team, you get to know your colleagues very well. From the get go, my colleagues offered me help in anyway they could, a common phrase was used 'do not hesitate to ask ' which meant I could always rely on them at any point I was stuck. Everyone there are welcoming and fun to work with, it was nice to be in a driven work environment but also be able to have a laugh with your colleagues. Being in a tight-knit group really makes working there all the more enjoyable. You're all passionate about the work and share the same mindset that you're working towards a goal of excelling the company in not only the UK but on a global scale and your ideas towards this are considered equally to everyone else.
My executives provided an incredible amount of support in allowing my ideas to come to fruition, 'micro-management' is not something you will find working for this company - if you are willing to bring in new ideas and support them with results, your supervisors will be there every step of the way in helping you reach your goals. At no point did it feel as though they were my 'boss', instead I saw them as mentors guiding and allowing me to get the most out of my time at the company. They are genuine people who wish to see you exceed, as not only does it benefit the company but also to develop you as an individual in skills which can be used inside and out of the work place.
As I developed through my role, and gained a better understanding of the business and allowed me to be able, to have a variety of options in regard to tasks. What I loved is that you make your own schedule with areas that you wish to focus on. For example, some days I would focus on operations dealing with spreadsheets and formulas on other days I would focus on sales and consultancy work which allowed me to communicate with other companies and visit clients. Hence there was always variety, and you are able to tailor your schedule on areas which you are interested or feel strongest in.
Being a start-up company, there are not departments of people dedicated to different areas of the company, hence if you are assigned to a role you are given full-responsibility over it. For someone who wants to get stuck in and experience in full what it is like be in a real workplace, this is perfect as you can adapt your role however you see optimal. This is also very rewarding, because as you develop the area you're responsible for, you can see how the choices you made, have contributed to bringing about positive change to the company.
I genuinely do believe working for this company has developed me not only academically but also as a person. The way you are treated and welcomed into the company as a valuable asset is really uplifting and makes you feel like you are there to bring about change rather than just another employee to bring in revenue. The way people go out of their way and their own time to help you, when they themselves have tasks to complete really sums up the mantra of the company. Working for Pure Biofuel has taught me a mindset which I will use not only in future careers but also in life. Just 5 years ago, the company was nothing more than an idea and now is the largest producer, supplier and distributor in the UK. This drive to innovate and create something new to the world is inspiring and valuable in showing what can be achieved with the right mindset.
The Company
Friendly working environment with everyone willing to help at any points notice, a great mixture of fun and driven attitude towards work.
Very well organised, from the get go you are given responsibilities which you can develop into areas you feel strongest in or are passionate about. You have a great amount of freedom to reach the company's goals, there is not necessarily a step-by-step guide on how to get there which feels very rewarding as it is you and your team working in unison to improve the company the most optimal way possible.
Great amounts of time are invested into you to ensure you have comprehensive knowledge on the industry, the business processes and overall work etiquette. This is consistent throughout the whole of the placement with colleagues helping and guiding you every step of the way.

The renewable energy industry is constantly moving forward with greater interest and investment towards it, Pure Biofuel is also experiencing this growth therefore increasing the chances to work for the company or industry when you leave University.
The Culture
Yes, I had a great time with my fellow colleagues and would definitely class them as friends which I wish to stay in touch with.
I lived at home for my placement therefore living costs were low, however purchasing items around London can be proportionately more expensive.
Infinite places to visit around London, went to many lovely restaurants recommended by colleagues.
On occasion we would go to pubs around the area, which was great for downtime and to generally have a laugh with my colleagues.
