About You
A welcome experience during a trying time. The 2020 virtual internship gave us a valuable insight into life at DLA Piper, taking us through the work each department does.
The graduate recruitment team we’re very enthusiastic about their jobs, despite the frustrating effect that technology can have. Dominique helped the interns to interact and gel.
We always knew where we to be at a certain time in terms of zoom calls. And if we had any queries graduate recruitment replied promptly.
Given the nature of a virtual internship, there is only so much you can learn. From the individuals we spoke to, it was apparent that networking and staying true to DLA Pipers core values is fundamental in building a career at the firm.
The Company
Rigidly structured to a tee, while allowing for flexibility where necessary. There were scheduled activities with ample break time in between too.
I think at first everyone was a little apprehensive, but grew more comfortable as time went on.
The firm insured a star studded lineup of keynote speakers including managing partners as well as current trainees.
The weeks internship really made me aware of the firms values and how they look in practice vis-a-vis their pro bono work for example.
Again, the firms ethical values and culture was made abundantly clear.
The weeks virtual internship completely sold me, hook, line and sinker. I was already pretty keen on DLA Piper given our mutual interest in Human Rights, however, the image that was portrayed of DLA’s approach to staff collaboration and the hierarchy was what really sold the firm to me.
Everything Else
On the first night there was a ‘pub quiz’ hosted by a group of current DLA Piper trainees via zoom.
Yes we were informed about the various initiatives, groups and events DLA Piper operate for staff to get involved in.
I would highly recommend DLA Pipers internship as an alternative to conventional vacation schemes. The demands are of course still high, but the casual atmosphere and fun activities really helps DLA Piper stand out, and it is representative of how they see themselves as a firm; casual, collaborative, considerate but exceptional.
