  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time at BAT. The work I have achieved during this year has been really fulfilling. All the skills and knowledge I have developed will translate into all aspects of my future career.

  • I was welcomed into the team immediately and I felt the work I accomplished was significant.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was lucky enough to seek support from many colleagues inside and outside my team, even when my supervisor was not always around. That being said everyone is connected through teams, so I could easily speak to anyone.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Everyday was a new challenge. Work would vary, but it really comes down to your work ethic and time management planning. I always had something to do, whether it was my projects or helping others.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good level of responsibility. I was able to manage a few team projects and had full accountability of my own.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All the skills I have developed will assist me in all aspects of my University studies. I was fortunate enough to work on projects I was interested in and would allow me to focus on my leadership and time management skills, which will definitely be beneficial for my degree work.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone in the office are friendly and happy to help. They want you to do your best and are very understanding when you are not quite sure how to fulfil a task.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The programme is very organised! The placement team have put in a great amount of effort perfecting it year by year. From the day you start, everything has been strategically planned to ensure you get the most out of your time at BAT.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • From my team, I had the opportunity to attend training courses on and off site. Whenever suppliers were on-site I was always asked to join meetings and introductions in order to learn more about the systems our machines use. The company would also hold events and workshops open to all employees and I would always attend. Whether it was a presentation skills workshop or a report writing class.

  • I am definitely considering a future career at BAT. I have been lucky enough to of had such a fulfilled experience here.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I am very good friends with the placement students. We would attend events and workshops together at work and meet all together during lunchtimes in the canteen. Many of use lived together and we would all meet up after work and on weekends.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living was relatively cheap and Southampton is a very student populated area with many places to meet new people.

  • The nightlife is pretty good. There are a number of places to go too.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities to do activities and try new sports outside of work.
