About You
RPC's summer scheme was a truly enjoyable experience. Both the work and the people at RPC are exceptional and you can sense that RPC has a different work environment to any other law firm. People here really value the insight of others and they make you feel welcomed from the get-go.
I felt extremely valued during my time at RPC. Various lawyers and even partners took the time to meet me and discuss their work with me. I never felt like I was bothering anyone and everyone I talked to was happy to help me with whatever queries I had.
I received a lot of guidance and support during the scheme. I was assigned both supervisor and a trainee buddy, both of which were very involved in what I was doing and wanted to help me succeed.
The skills and information I got from the scheme will be helpful, despite the tasks I worked on being hypothetical. I still got to develop my presentation skills, while also getting constructive feedback on my drafting and research notes.
The Company
RPC's summer scheme was extremely well structured. I always knew what I was supposed to do and where I was supposed to be. The scheme was clearly structure for every single student, with that structure being clear to everyone.
RPC's general atmosphere was one of collaboration and cooperation. There was mutual respect between all of RPC's personnel, as well as between them and us, the summer scheme students. RPC's trainees also knew how to create a fun environment in which we could socialise and get a feel of how collegiate RPC's general atmosphere is.
It was clear that a lot of work went into the Summer Scheme by RPC. The firm invested in the portal in which the scheme was based and it arranged so that its people would make the time to talk to us.
The firm made the best it could to give as a sense of what a full time role with RPC would feel like. We got a good understanding of the firm, despite the scheme being held online.
I got a real sense of the company's culture, as I got to see its employees not just in presentations but also through my informal chats and virtual coffee-breaks.
The scheme solidified my intention to practice law, as I thoroughly enjoyed all the tasks that were assigned to me. My interactions with so many of RPC's lawyers also made it clear to me that this is the path I want to go on.
Everything Else
I was adequately paid for this experience.
There were a lot more opportunities than I expected to network and meet other employees during the Scheme, which were fully appreciated.
The networking and social event opportunities were truly fun and inclusive. We got to meet people from all departments of the the firm and from all levels in the (rather horizontal) hierarchy.
I got to hear a lot about the individual hobbies of RPC's employees, as well as getting to know about the activities that RPC's trainees arrange for themselves, having formed true friendship bonds between them.
I would recommend RPC's summer scheme to a friend wholeheartedly, as I didn't only get to enhance my skills and experiences, but I also had fun while doing so.
