The Role
The work done was very enjoyable, due to working on actual projects of the business, rather than just being given side projects to do, although at times the work was difficult and there is a lot of pressure to deliver work on time. there is a great support system in place for the interns, with a placement team, buddies and mentors as well as your line manager, giving plenty of points of contact when the work is beyond your particular skill set.
during my time at BAT I was always made to feel included by my team and other colleagues. My team and manager always had time for me, either to talk through work I was struggling with or more socially. there were also several after work functions I was invited to, allowing me to get to know my colleagues outside of work, these out of work functions really helped to develop my relationships with members of my team and colleagues from other functions.
The support received from my manager was excellent, he very much tried to leave me to my own devices and provided support when needed, which was really good as it showed a trust in my ability to do the work. support was also provided by other members of my team and the placement team. this really helped with my development in the industry.
At the beginning of the year there was a lot of work to be done as there were several trials running, however due to COVID-19 and the stopping of manufacture this became more difficult. Although the COVID-19 pandemic put strain on the work me and my team were able to complete, I was always given work to be able to do from home.
I was given the opportunity to run several workstreams further helping my development.
before coming on placement, my skills were very much limited, however I was provided with training in CAD and project management as well as more industry specific training to further development.
The Company
everyone was really nice and always happy to have a chat and a laugh.
the placement altogether was very well set up there were a few minor issues but nothing that was much of an impact.
provided with several training opportunities both internal and external.
