The Role
I have loved my placement year and don't actually want it to end. My year at Intel has been such an amazing and rewarding experience, and I am so glad I decided to do a placement year.
I felt valued by my colleagues. I was constantly given feedback on my progress and development, and felt that everyone was invested in my success. I was always made to feel that I was having a significant impact to the team, and that the time I invested was worthwhile. Right from the get go, I was made to feel part of the team, and not excluded. They went out of their way to welcome me and to put me at ease during a time that can be fairly overwhelming.
I was given a lot of support and guidance from my supervisor. We made sure that we had an hour long meeting booked in every week, that would allow me to update them on how I was doing, and to voice any concerns I may have. My manager always pushed me to challenge myself and gave me more responsibility as she believed I could do it. This was invaluable to my confidence.
I was fairly busy on a daily basis. My role is fairly flexible, and I had some level of autonomy to make it my own. Once I diversified the role, I became busier on a regular basis. But I have never felt stressed or overwhelmed by how busy I am.
I was given plenty of responsibility during my placement. It surprised me when I joined Intel how much they value their interns and view them as part of the workforce. We are therefore treated the same and given the same level of responsibility. Any time I was given more responsibility, my manager and I would take a collaborative approach so that we could ensure I was comfortable with any changes.
The skills I have developed during my placeemnt year will significantly benefit my degree studies and beyond. It was invaluable to put the theories I was taught at university into practice. Intel is the largest corporation I have worked for, so it was a good experience learning how to work in an office and how to network effectively with external stakeholders.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was good. Quiet enough to get on with your work, but not so quiet you felt like you couldn't speak to anyone. The open plan office space made it feel like we were part of one whole team working together, which made for a great collaborative and friendly atmosphere.
It was great! you can tell that the placement scheme has been going on for years, as the organisers have really nailed it.
I feel like Intel invested in my personal training and development, as I had access to multiple free training courses, guest speakers, and even invested in paid additional courses.

The Culture
We have a Sports and Social Intern Committee that organised and hosted the majority of our events, which really helped to solidify the intern community feeling.
I believe it be relatively affordable with great transport links to Bath, Bristol and London.
Fairly cheap, but could have more options.
There were multiple opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, anything from sports to charity/ volunteer work.
