The Role
I loved my placement year. The roll is very fast paced and can be extremely challenging at times. You are placed out of your comfort zone a lot, but here is where I feel like I have grew the most. I I was given an insight on every part of the business and couldn't recommend this placement enough to individuals who enjoy working in a fast paced, competitive retail environment. You will learn a lot!
I felt very valued by all of my colleagues. You are given exposure in all aspects of the business from the store teams, the logistics teams, and the trading teams etc. So on this placement programme you will meet a lot of people, from every aspect of the business throughout the entire year. I feel like at every stage, I was welcomed with open arms at every stage and felt like I was a part of the team!
Along this journey, you are given a mentor, and you also have a direct leader who you report to regularly, and a personal leader. I feel my direct leader was absolutely amazing!! He gave myself and the other industrial placement students so much of his time in order to really help us grow and develop. This is something I believe no other business would offer! The guidance and support along this journey is more than I could have ever asked for or imagined!
I would not recommend working for Aldi if you are not a passionate and motivated individual. I have really enjoyed myself but there has been times where it has been tough! You work a minimum of 50 hours per week. If hard work is something you are afraid of, then don't apply! You need to be resilient, dedicated and motivated to succeed. This is a year of work however, it is so worth it! !
I was actually very shocked at the level of responsibility we were given as placement students. You are trusted as a valuable member of staff and you are thrown in at the deep end!! The amount of responsibility you are given from the second you join is incredible! This really gives you the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them, and this is how you develop along the way! You are given guidance throughout the placement.
I believe this year has made me a more well rounded individual and I have the ability to cope under pressure and can face anything that I am challenged with. I feel like I can be a lot more productive with my time, and this is something that I can us in my final year of studies! I think this will really stand by me, and make the final eyar of my degree a lot easier.
