The Role
One month left into this experience and I can conclude that I will never forget this experience as I feel that a lot of good opportunities can be born from it. All the skills I have developed like working in a team the most surprising one for me and knowing how to deal with pressure will be useful in the future. I see things differently now, as I believe in a real balance between workload and a healthy mind, which did boost my productivity. Even during lockdown, HPE made sure to keeps us busy and offered extra support to employees by giving us a free subscription of Headspace for a healthy mind!
I have to add that I had a 1-1 with my manager weekly. That was key as it kept me working productively and felt like I was being valued.
I was very busy on a daily basis, although, it varies from intern to intern as you get assigned to your normal "daily job" but on your free time you can either engage or not in more opportunities or developing your passions inside the business. I took the opportunity to develop my passion for sustainability by organising all vegan events and my colleagues were always so supportive of my ideas... So I had that extra work going on.
At HPE, as an intern, you are given an important job and you feel like you are key to keep the business running as usual.
I believe that i have developed skills in wider areas such as Supply Chain Management – as I had to deeply understand the Channel, and what itconsisted; the fact that we were supplying the equipment to a Distributor/Reseller, which then would sell it to an End User. Another important module was Statistics as it allowed me not only to have an advantage when starting my job – but as well to have the curiosity of learning more, which could have been influenced by the teacher I had back then. Although, it was with Global Sustainability and Innovation that I realized what was my professional purpose and made me come into the Placement with the right attitude to network with people in the Living Progress Team (HPEs’ Corporate Social Responsibility program) in America;connected as well with Corporate Affairs, Sustainable Project Managers and Sustainability Technologists inside HPE in the UK. This will definitely help my understanding on future modules as the placement gave me such a realistic view of how the business world works!
