The Role
The scheme is very well run at HPE, they offer a week onboard to familiarise you with the business and put on social events so you bond with your colleagues. The workload over the year is flexible, they allow you to manage what you take on and your supported by managers. I felt like i contributed to the business throughout the year and held responsibility which made the work i did rewarding. I would highly recommend a placement at HPE.
Being given real responsibility made me feel like a valued employee throughout the year much like someone who had been there for years. Within my role i played a substantial part in the forecasting process, without my input the entire process couldn't have run so effectively. Although this,at times, made the role stressful it also made me valued. You are treated any other employee during an internship at HPE, you don't feel like an intern and certainly dont have to make any teas.
From the start of my placement my manager pushed me to get involved in as many additional activities outside my standard job role as possible. I feel like i was fully supported to do so and this made me comfortable. There's plenty of opportunity to develop new skills working on projects additionally they offer opportunity to take part in training programs. HPE has a very inclusive and supportive culture and people are always willing to give their time to support you.
As i mentioned before i felt like i had actually responsibility on a daily basis. I had time restrictions to meet which kept me busy. At times where i didnt have as much work i could always ask for more and be given some new responsibility however when i wanted a slightly quieter week i could focus on my main responsibilities and perhaps take the week slightly easier than others. On the whole the workload is flexible and you can make what you want to this opportunity.
There were certain process and programs i helped with throughout my year and i feel some of these would not have been possible without my help. Towards the end of my time at HPE when i had fully settled and gown in confidence i could complete these task proficiently and the work i did fit in well with processes such as forecast or organising internal development programs for employees looking to move to different parts of the busines.
I have developed practical skills such as excel and powerpoint alongside presentation skills, organisation skills as well an understanding of a global working business. All these skills make me a far more valuable graduate when i finish university next year. My CV is now far stronger in terms of practical experience and skill set. When moving back to university i will be bale to work for longer and concentrate on tasks, challenging these in a more analytical manner.
