The Role
My placement role was exactly what I was looking for to help me further develop my skill set according to the current industry requirements. It helped me explore the semiconductor industry and utilize my interest in the areas of my degree that I'm fond of. On top of this, it showed me skills that I did not know that I had while giving me the opportunity to improve them, both technically and time management wise.
I was always encouraged to provide my opinions and suggestions at every stage of the projects I was involved with. I felt that my colleagues genuinely appreciated my inputs regarding what I have to say within the area that I work for even though they have far more experience that I do. Throughout the year, I had opportunities to show my true potential and get recognized for the results I managed to produce this year.
I was given a lot of support regarding my job since it was a complete new area of work for me. I was given support at every stage of my placement - whether it was regarding my programming skills or understanding the fundamentals of my area of work. I was always encouraged to ask for help if required and was responsible for coming up with engineering solutions regarding my area of work in a fast paced environment.
I would say quite busy, I was lucky to have been given a fast paced role that fitted my professional personality. I enjoyed, the key to overcome was time management skills, which I further developed throughout the year. There was a solid 2-3 hours in discussions with the rest of the time utilized to complete my tasks. It was a relaxed environment but I was required to meet my targets on most occasions which helped me better realize my contribution to my team.
I was directly responsible of delivering major projects so I would say I was given quite a lot of responsibility for a placement year student. I was also given adequate amounts of support accordingly. I would say a reasonable amount of work was involved with my projects. I definitely felt I was given responsibility and resulted in growing my ability to handle high pressure situations. This is strongly linked to feeling valuable and feeling more responsible to deliver.
The skills/training received put all the content learned at university into a all new perspective. I had the chance to see how the units taught at university come together in the real world, which consolidated my understanding over the last couple of years. I strongly believe that the skills set that I developed this year will be a plus after graduating and will be my selling point when searching for jobs within the area that I want to work for.
The Company
It was a very healthy learning environment. Intel's culture was key to reach the balance between working and having fun. Everyone was always super helpful and always encouraging which helped increase my curiosity. From day one, I felt welcome which translated into a higher motivation throughout the placement. I am grateful to both my senior colleagues and me fellow interns for being so supportive and helpful through my placement year which helped me produce some excellent results.
It was an extremely well organised placement year. We received all sorts of support during on boarding and right throughout the placement year. My projects in particular were extremely well organized with almost a perfect timeline with deliverables that were definitely achievable during my time here at Intel. There are ample amount of opportunities given throughout the year which include impromptu activities and engagement with a variety of projects across the entire site. This set up definitely aided my entire placement year experience.
There was training platforms available to us. On top of this, there was various training session on site for us to take advantage of. Throughout the time, as I mentioned before, I was also coached by a mentor who had a lot expertise which was a crucial for my personal development throughout the year. In fact, I was able to create some technical training material by myself for my particular area of work which helped me realize the importance of technical documentation.

The Culture
Most definitely, all the interns and senior employees gelled very well. I believe it was a lot to do with Intel's work culture which is top notch. As a fresher, it is always important to be encouraged to continue following your interests. I am extremely happy with the kind of work and encouragement I have received throughout the year. I believe my fellow interns also had a great time in their respective teams which was reflected in the entire office's vibe.
Yes, we were encouraged and supported to take up activities outside work. There were a range of activities we got involved with throughout the year and this included setting up committees and brain storming ideas that ranged from educational events to sports. Again, this is reflective of Intel's culture of going beyond the usual work to ensure the employees have a good time and get a chance to engage in some offbeat team building activities.
