The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year with Randstad. Originally recruitment wasn't something i thought I would go into but after my placement year it is definitely something I want to explore and potentially have a future career in.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues, I was always given an opportunity to share any ideas I had, and they were always listened to and taken on board.
I was given great support and guidance by my manager. I always felt if I had a question I could ask and with anything new it was always explained to me in depth. I also had a personal development plan unique to me to help me gain as much out of my placement as possible. Every week I also had 2 1 to 1 meeting with my manager, one to set me up for the week and one at the end of the week to celebrate any achievements I had made and to track my progress.
My role was very busy which is something I enjoyed. It varied from day to day meaning I wasn't stuck doing the same thing, making each day exciting.
I was given a lot of responsibility being at the forefront of the recruitment process. Also, as I got further into my placement year I was able to progress and step up in the tasks that I was completing, which made me feel like my work was valued.
The overall experience of my placement year will assist me greatly in my degree and beyond. It has given me a valuable years worth of experience in an industry that is related to my degree. This has enabled me to see theory that I have learnt whilst studying put into practice. The skills I have developed will also help me once I have graduated in finding a role and starting my career.
The Company
The atmosphere of my office was great, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. My team was very social, having drinks on a Friday and team nights out
The placement set up was well organised. The interview process was great and I heard back whether I was successful quickly. When I started my placement I was also put on an induction with other placement years, which allowed me to meet everyone and learn more about what my role would entail.
Randstad invested in my greatly. I had 1 to 1 meetings every week with my manager to discuss my own personal development plan to help me get the most out of my placement.

Working from home
Future employment prospects are very appealing within the organisation. I have seen examples whilst working that Randstad is always keen to get previous successful placement year students back into the business once they have graduated.
The Culture
Yes there was a good social scene amongst fellow placement years, at induction everyone stayed in a hotel and all got to meet each other and have dinner and drinks in the evening.
I lived at home during my placement year and commuted via train work. Socialising was slightly more than being at uni but that is what I expected with working in London.
The nightlife was great in the area I worked. I worked in London and there was a pub right underneath our office which we often went for drinks at after work. Also any activity we wanted to do on a team night out was only a short journey away. As a team we went to junkyard golf, flight club, karaoke bar, baillie ballerson, a boat party on the river thames for our team Christmas party and lots of bars and resturants!
There have been many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work such as: Christmas party, conference, team nights out
