About You
I enjoyed the virtual experience overall. It was especially appealing to hear more about Jefferies and the evolution of the bank. I am particularly interested in how much they are growing in Investment Banking as it is the division I am interested in joining. I would have appreciated the chance to ask my questions, but I understand that given the time constraints and the abundance of participants this wasn't possible. It was nice to learn more about the different initiatives that support women in their banking careers.
The company made us feel at ease to ask the questions that would be helpful for us on our career paths. The moderators even intervened to ask general questions that are of interest to the majority of participants. The breakout panel sessions would have made it easier for more questions to be asked, but the organizers managed to keep the event structured despite this. Keeping our videos on also made the whole experience more engaging.
I felt like I received a unique insight into the experience of employees at Jefferies. The diversity of employees also re-invigorated my interest in Jefferies. Learning about the experiences of employees who were once in my same position was an eye-opener. I will definitely take their advices throughout my journey. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] emphasized "Make yourself stand out". It is something that resonated with me as I am always trying to challenge myself and to learn new things.
As I am a prospective applicant for this summer session, I have already made the decisions regarding my degree studies. However, listening to their experiences at Jefferies as well as the diversity of their academic backgrounds assured me that I am on the right path. Having studied engineering before my masters like [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], I am intrigued by their transition into banking. I also learned the importance of networking and reaching out for help.
The Company
The virtual experience was very well-structured. We were presented with the schedule before-hand. As such, we had a clear picture of how the afternoon would go down. The presentations were brief yet insightful. There were undeniably a few hiccups like the breakout sessions not working out, but that is quite normal as we all try to adapt to this new way of working. Finally, we were provided with the next steps. At each point, the moderator was clear and concise.
The general atmosphere was exciting to say the least! I got the chance to virtually meet Jefferies' employees as well as peers who are ambitious and driven. I learned from bankers who presented their experience in a clear and concise way. I also got to learn from the different questions that my peers asked throughout the sessions. The team was welcoming and warm. By the end, I felt truly even more motivated than I was originally!
The talks by bankers from different divisions of the bank enlightened me even more on their different roles. I would have appreciated seeing or participating in a short work sample for a more concrete idea. Jefferies' employees managed to answer some questions which further developed the idea of their day-to-day work tasks in my mind. Ideally, a session on a deliverable would have also been nice. I appreciate the time taken out of their busy schedule to pass on their pieces of advice.
Everything Else
Not necessary as it was virtual
It was surely interesting meeting employees of the firm. However, the large number of participants inhibited the opportunity to stand out. For example, I was not given the chance to ask a question upon raising my hand. It would have been nice to participate in a live event where one can leave an impression upon the people he/she meets. In such situations, the way the event played out is great. The breakout sessions would have been a plus in this respect.
