About You
I really enjoyed my internship with Bank of America, the virtual experience was better than I imagined. The bank made the experience worthwhile by putting in place platforms to help interns stay connected and make the best out of the experience. The sessions were all well thought out and informative. The bank also leveraged technology to help interns stay connected through platforms that were easy to use. My internship with the bank has been my best job ever and I felt very connected with the people and culture.
I interned with two desks and I was assigned real projects that would add value to the team. Despite the virtual environment, the bank ensured interns were given enough support to deliver on assigned projects. In addition, the executive speaker sessions made me feel very valued, as I got to spend half an hour with senior executives and learn about their roles and experiences with the bank. Lastly, the teams were very welcoming and willing to support all interns.
The guidance and support from everyone at the bank was fantastic! I got enough assistance from my buddy and mentor, and people in the bank. There were also social events organised by different team to help interns get familiar with individuals on the team, this was helpful in terms of building genuine network across the bank. The bank also had resources that were very useful, the training and resources helped interns to be efficient on their projects.
Through the internship, I have developed skills such as presentation skill, analytical skill and knowledge about cash management. The information and skills I garnered will be very useful to me as I continue my career in banking and finance. The internship has helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses, and also my areas of development. I believe all these will help me get better and best positioned for further opportunities in the finance industry and beyond
The Company
The internship was very well structured and well thought out. It was clear that the bank was delibrate about making the internship a great experience despite the virtual environment. All sessions were in accordance to the time allotted, this helped me better manage my time. The activities were well rounded to include business activities, social events, volunteering, and networking. The finance and soft skill training before desk placement was also seemless and very helpful on projects.
The general atmosphere was very welcoming. Everyone was willing to support and assist all interns. It was a fun filled experience as there were social events that kept interns connected to the bank. In addition, there were also volunteering activities that helped to foster collaboration amongst interns. The bank also had platforms to help interns connect with others through calls and video. Through these platforms, interns were able to organise sessions such as quiz competitions
There were soft skill training for African interns weeks before the start of the internship and there were also quality technical training for all interns. The desk resources and courses available on the banks systems were helpful in my development and understanding of the business. The bank investment in training interns was very impressive, there were enough information to help all interns succeed and get the best out of the internship opportunity. In addition, everyone at the bank were supportive
Through the virtual experience, I could already imagine what a full time role with the bank will be like. This is because interns were given quality training and real projects to work on. Interns were treated like analysts and this made me understand the nature of the job and my interests. By the end of the internship I was already able to identify the team I was interested in if I was given the opportunity to work full time
I felt very connected to the bank's culture. The culture of the bank is one that is very diverse and exciting. I was able to build my network with people from several background and this gave me fresh perspectives on different areas. In addition, the "open-door" culture of the bank meant that I could schedule sessions with people in the bank to learn about their roles and experiences in the bank. I was drawn to the culture.
The sessions were very valuable in helping me recognise what areas I will be interested in. In addition, the internship also helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses. After my internship, I was able to draw out a career plan off the back of the information and experiences I have garnered through the internship. Despite the virtual environment, my internship with the bank has been able to help me in identifying my interests in banking
Everything Else
There were many opportunities to meet with other employees of the bank. There were executive speaker sessions, almost every day and there were also training sessions on how to build network across the bank. Different teams also organised social events to help interns connect with members of their teams and learn about their roles in the bank. In addition, employees of the bank were also willing to allow interns put some time on their calendars for a catch up
The networking and social events were very interesting and informative. I was able to build my network and learn about the bank's businesses. In addition, there were opportunities to meet senior level management of the bank and ask them questions. Lastly, the 1-to-1 sessions with employees of the bank were very informative, interesting and inspiring. I enjoyed every bit of the networking events, they were interesting and at the same time they helped me learn about the bank's culture
There were lot of activities employees could get involved in outside of work. There were volunteering opportunities for interns and there were also side projects to help interns work with others across the bank. The volunteer opportunities were great despite the virtual environment. In addition, there were employee networks that interns could join to help them feel connected to the bank and it's people. All of these extracurricular activities helped me in building my network across the bank.
Yes, of course I will recommend a virtual experience with Bank of America to a friend. This is because the bank has put in place a great structure to help interns grow and get the best out of the opportunity. In addition, considering that my internship class is the bank's first virtual internship, I believe the bank did a wonderful job in making it my best internship experience so far. Lastly, the bank is very innovative, so I believe subsequent internships will even be better.
