    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • The virtual insight day offered was a very positive experience and was conducted superbly by Barnett Waddingham. The organisation of the day was well thought through with both small and large sessions which allowed for many topics to be covered and also the opportunity for questions to be asked from my part. The employees running the sessions were very welcoming and left a very good impression on the company throughout the day. I look forward to applying to their 2021 intake as a result of this.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued throughout the insight day. BW thought carefully about how the sessions were structured and the number of staff involved to help keep us at the centre stage throughout the day. Communication throughout the day as well as before and after the sessions left me feeling valued too as employees were happy to answer questions in their free time. Overall this left a very good impression on me and I look forward to applying for their 2021 opportunities.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • The guidance and support was very good; questions regarding the application process for BW were answered well and employees running the sessions have answered any queries I have had following the insight day. Before the insight day questions regarding the content of the day were answered and support seemed welcomed following on from the day. Guidance throughout the experience was also very good as we were in contact with many different employees from different offices of BW.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I managed to gain a good insight into the skills needed and used by actuaries. Recent graduates at BW pointed out some key software skills that would be useful to know before joining the graduate program. Information about the near future repercussions of the COVID pandemic was also very interesting to hear and inspired me to research more into the topics covered. This information has already helped me understand online actuarial articles and will be valuable in the near future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • The experience was well structured and the timings on the day were very good; especially as there were many different group calls following on from one and other. Different sized sessions worked very well as there was a chance to interact with recent graduates as well as learn from experienced professionals who gave seminars on the different skills actuaries needed. The smaller sessions also allowed for questions to be asked to the recent graduates who workes across the UK offices.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • The atmosphere was very good. Having met some of the other attendants at assessment centres last november, I felt alot more comfortable asking quations and interacing throughout the day. The BW employees running the sessions were extremely welcoming and I didn't feel out of place at any point throughout the day. There was a very relaxed approach to the day which was nice as I didn't feel pressured at any point either. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The virtual experience helped a lot with the understanding of what a full time role would be like at BW. By speaking to recent graduates on the graduation program it gave me an insight to the day to day responsibilities of an actuary consultant there. They were more than happy to answer any questions we had and gave a good first hand response to questions on the topic. I walked away from the experience with all my questions answered.
