About You
This virtual internship has been such an incredible experience. With a wide range of activities and sessions planned for us interns, I feel like I have had the opportunity to experience snippets of different areas of the bank in just 6 weeks! As each day is varied in terms of the sessions we have, I feel like it has been very enjoyable - I never get bored with what I'm doing!
I have had the pleasure of meeting so many different people in different teams at Barclays. Each new person that I encounter is super welcoming and happy to help, which I feel reflects the Barclays values perfectly. Additionally, the people who I have directly worked with in my team were amazing at listening and respecting the opinions and ideas of everyone part of the group, which made me personally feel very valued.
I received a lot of support throughout the internship. From my lovely line manager, to HR, to my team and everyone at Barclays who I have met during networking opportunities, I have always felt as though if needed, I would receive the correct guidance and support. There are always chances to ask questions and contact people if you are unsure of something, which is another great thing.
The training sessions, in particular the Excel and Python technical training, will massively assist me during my studies and beyond. At my university specifically, I have received Excel training, but further developing these skills in our sessions and via the learning lab allowed me to refine those skills and become more confident in general. Also, collaborating with so many different people has been a great learning experience.
The Company
We received a clear agenda of how our weeks were to be structured, which gave us the opportunity to plan our time effectively. We also had lots of opportunities to put in time with HR and our point of contact (line manager, project lead, etc) if we needed further guidance. Additionally, there were many fun and engaging sessions planned for us so that we could make the most out of our internship.
Absolutely fantastic! Everyone at Barclays is very positive and happy to help you whenever you need extra support. I never felt left out and always had opportunities to express my thoughts and questions without judgement. These past weeks on the internship have been jam packed, but honestly, the fun never stopped!
We have had plenty of opportunities to learn more about the business areas at Barclays, have some technical training (Excel, Python) and do some self learning via the Learning Lab. Even outside of these three things, we have met with so many different teams within the bank and had the opportunity to ask as many insightful questions as we wanted. We learnt from those great answers and experiences as well.
Personally, I met with loads of different people from a wide range of job roles at Barclays. From speaking to people who are already employed at Barclays, I can honestly say that I have learnt a great deal about teams in the bank that I would love to be a part of, as well as learning more about the culture of Barclays. This has been an invaluable learning experience.
It was extremely helpful - through all of my interactions with people at Barclays, it is clear to me that the five values are constantly upheld. Everyone is super friendly and willing to help you. Despite their role and corporate level, people at Barclays have all been very welcoming, nice and great people to have a conversation with in general!
Incredibly valuable. Hearing from people of all different backgrounds and the diverse nature of the job roles at Barclays has taught me about so many exciting projects and teams that I could potentially be a part of.
Everything Else
I was paid the agreed salary in my internship contract that I signed prior to my start date. This was for the full 9 weeks of the internship.
Networking and meeting people from areas of interest was definitely encouraged and appreciated during the internship. This for me was a great experience and exposed me to many different areas of the bank that I had no idea existed before! There has been plenty of great opportunities for networking for sure.
The events were extremely insightful. I gained valuable knowledge from each person that I met with and from each event that I attended. The sessions included very tailored content for us interns, for example learning about our student loan repayments, that were extremely useful and relevant to our current life moment.
There were plenty of opportunities to learn more about different networks and events that you could get involved with as a Barclays employee. For example, the Spectrum network, the WIN network and many more! It all sounds very engaging and inclusive.
Absolutely - this experience has provided me with a wealth of information and allowed me to develop my skills ready for life after university. I feel as though experiences like this internship will truly provide individuals with the best opportunities, so I would definitely recommend to anyone who is interested.
