The Role
It was a relevant and stimulating program which actually aimed to give an accurate picture of the work and requirements in an organization fo that size
The Internship and graduate team were in close contact throughout the program and were always eager to make sure people were involved and getting what they wanted out of the experience. Despite being online there was also a great atmosphere of collaboration amongst interns.
We were checked in on by multiple supervisors to make sure we were on track with the projects we had been set and also how we were getting on in the program generally.
Given that it was virtual, a lot of work was self-led with multiple calls throughout the day, this provided a good work-life balance for those of us who had not been previously used to working remotely.
We were working on a project which was to be shown in front of people quite high up in the organization which made the work we were doing feel important and valued.
Along with the insight into large organizations and interpersonal skills that you might expect to progress, I felt I really developed my digital capabilities in using teams and excel etc which will be very helpful.
The Company
The atmosphere was collaborative and very friendly, there were limitations to this however because we were working remotely and so a workgroup can only bond to a certain point, highly unlikely o be an issue if the internship returns to the office though as everyone was very keen to get to know one another and work well.
The program was exceptionally well organized in the run-up to and actual time fo the placement. This is a testament to the careers and apprenticeships team who checked in lots of stages to make sure you were onboarded as quickly as possible.
The company gave us various upskilling webnars with training colleagues. They also gave us access to the 'learning at Tesco' section of the intranet which was filled with huge amounts of training
Working from home
The Culture
The social scene was as best as it could be given the circumstances, alongside some centrally organized events from the internship leads, we as interns set up some personal calls and catch-ups as well as evening activities to get to know the teams better.
