The Role
Considering the internship was moved to a virtual environment, and that this was the first virtual internship Barclays has ever run. It was excellently organised with great talks, events and activities to make us feel part of the family. I enjoyed speaking to my friendly team and mentors along with performing the interesting tasks I was set.
I felt valued by my colleagues due to them inviting me to meetings, having regular catch-ups to ensure I was okay and generally trying to keep in contact with me during my time on the virtual internship. I only wish I could have interacted with them in person, something that is not Barclays' fault.
I was supervised well by my managers with weekly catch-ups with him and daily catch-ups with my supervisor and fellow intern. I was given well-defined tasks to complete and guidance as to how to complete them.
I was quite busy however due to technical difficulties, some time was spent waiting for tickets to clear. In this time however there were plenty of networking and learning resources for me to use to still benefit from my time.
I was given a good amount of responsibility, not so much as I was concerned for the safety of projects however enough to make me feel like my work was valued and important.
The lessons learnt have been invaluable and will go on to be useful throughout my career and further studies. Even simple aspects of working from home have had a lasting and positive effect on my ability and confidence. Most of the software I worked with was completely new to me and so I really had a chance to develop my own experience in practical ways.
The Company
We were working from home however the people I interacted with virtually were welcoming, attentive and helpful.
There were a lot of talks, training sessions and events to attend that made every day different and interesting. I made notes on these sessions that I will consult going forward as they have taught me valuable and useful lessons and skills.
The company set me up with pluralsight courses I could use, mentoring sessions from multiple influential members of staff and training from external providers to invest in my skills and abilities.
Working from home
Very appealing as I have seen a culture and work environment I would love to be a bigger part of in the future. The grad scheme also seems excellent and I would love to progress into that.
The Culture
Other interns were very responsive and communicative however we were working remotely so I did not have the chance to meet any which was a shame.
Not applicable as we worked from home.

Yes, lots of activities and groups we could talk to and hear more from regarding supporting the excellent Barclays Values.
