    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a great experience overall, especially given the current circumstances and challenges of working from home. For the whole duration of the internship I felt I have continued to learn more and more about how the company works both via the training sessions and also via the networking events and networking within the team. I also enjoyed that there are multiple divisions in which the interns work, so networking allows you to understand a wide variety of perspectives within the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I worked in welcomed me with wide arms and I felt included. I have never felt left out of important conversations and I had the opportunity to contribute to crucial aspects of our project. Sustained communication was established since the very beginning of the internship and has continued throughout it. My opinion was greatly valued and taken into consideration every time. I was able to both give and receive feedback within and outside of my team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Supervisors are always there for any type of query at any time. My management team was always responsive and more than happy to help with every issue I encountered while working on my project. When I faced hurdles, my supervisors were very prompt in chasing the problem and elevating the requests I had in order to solve the problem as soon as possible. Regular catch up meetings are also something I appreciated because they provided an opportunity for feedback.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every day is different from all the others. Some days were all open for getting together with my team and working on or brainstorming solutions for the project. Some days are dedicated to a multitude of training sessions which are meant to expand your knowledge of the company and its multiple departments. Finally, some days allow a balance in between these two types of activities. Regardless of the type, I felt that every day was very well balanced in terms of workload.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My team and I were the main developers of the project we were attributed at the start. Even though we were given a number of guidelines at the beginning, I felt we were not only were able, but also encouraged to brainstorm further ideas for the project and turn it into an overall better product. My team was also constantly receiving feedback from supervisors as well as stakeholders which allowed us to take on a reasonable and sensible amount of responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • First of all, working in such a company gave me a lot of insight into the amount of work it is necessary for a large organisation to function. Secondly, the training sessions organised by the company covered a large number of very important aspects of personal and career development. Finally, since my internship was in technology, I have worked with a number of programming languages, platforms and technologies I have not encountered before which expanded my knowledge as a developer.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We did not work in an office, but remotely - online. However, the atmosphere that I felt while communicating with both my team and management or supervisors was very friendly and welcoming. People were happy to provide guidance for any problem I encountered. It felt very easy and natural to become friends with the people within my team which lead to a very enjoyable atmosphere while working together. All members of my team were respectful and considerate.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that the company invested a lot in both our personal and career development. All interns received two types of training sessions: ones tailored to the specific division they are working in, and ones dedicated for all interns to attend. Both were extremely valuable and educational. The company also provides a wide variety of courses and lessons on all aspects of development completely for free for the duration of the internship, so learning and development is highly encouraged and easily achievable.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are very appealing. The company offers the opportunity for personal and career development and I feel once can achieve a stellar career within the company. It also has a large number of internally available positions so the opportunities and endless, and paired with networking and not being afraid to ask questions, developing a career path is very easy and enjoyable. Finally, I think that the company is able to provide a variety of future experiences tailored for all possible goals.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I would say the social scene is a very good one, even though it was hindered by the challenges of working remotely. It is hard to connect with people simply over voice chat and the webcam, but I felt that since we were all in the same situation, we managed to make it work. Striking a good work life balance was one of my main goals for the internship and the friendships I have made during the time at the company contributed a lot towards that goal.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Worked remotely. However, from what I gathered from team members and colleagues that are living in the same area as where the internship would have taken place, the area is quite affordable. There are a lot of affordable and convenient corner shops, as well as bigger shops of known brands. The cost of living is not high and it is easy to find anything you want fairly close by. My colleagues have highly recommended the area.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Worked remotely. However, from what I gathered from team members and colleagues that are living in the same area as where the internship would have taken place, the nightlife is abundant and enjoyable. It all depends on what you make of it, but generally there is something going on at all times. There are a lot of places to go to at night to have fun with friends, as well as multiple organised events all over the city.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company offers a wide variety of activities to get involved in outside of the normal working environment. There are a multitude of groups and networks within the company to join, which allowed us to get involved with numerous events. Some are meant to raise awareness, some are targeting diversity and other important aspects and topics. There are also a large number of charity events to get involved with which always gets people together to contribute towards a noble cause.
