The Role
Everyone who works at George makes it an easy and enjoyable place to work, but sometimes the job could get boring and repetitive.
All who I worked with appreciated the work I did and were interested in me personally.
Lots of training from my manager and encouraged to do new and different things. It was a struggle for them to advise what the next step would be to progress.
For the first 6 months - working on one department I was very busy all the time, and knew what my tasks were. Moving to work on 2 depts has left me doing little jobs for both, and not always having daily tasks or responsibilities.
Lots of responsibility and trusted with the tasks I was asked to do. Would have liked perhaps a little bit more, however working as a second assistant on both departments, they got more responsibility than myself.
I gained lots more people skills from working with people from all walks of life and all ages. I gained knowledge of how a massive national and global company works, and how a flat hierarchy works. I have a lot of contacts I can use for the future if necessary and more knowledge of how the industry works.
The Company
Only when collegues were put under pressure with meetings did the mood dip in the office, usually it would be very relaxed and friendly. Everyone would say hellp to everyone.
We were very well prepared to come into the business with meetings pre our start date we kept in contact with the university and the HR team when we needed to.
Lots of courses available to go on for your needs, but not so many to get you ready to progress in the business. Line managers would not always have time to concentrate on your personal development with all the goings on in the office.

I would really like to go back to George as it is a great company to work for. I would want to even more f the pay was increased and the location was better for me to live nearer my home.
The Culture
I lived with 2 others and car shared with 1 more, we went for dinner a few times and spoke in the office.
Rent was pretty good in the area when sharing with 2 others. To go to the cinema and for drinks not too bad near to where we live, but not so much straight after work in the village.
Cost £30 in a taxi to go to the nearest city in the evening, which is a lot of money on placement wage. Also, as a placement student, all other collegues had their friends and family nearby, so not so keen to go out with you.
I went to netball every Tuesday and will be playing in the Corporate Games with collegues I would never have met before. We also went to the gym after work.
