The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, it was exciting and different every week. It kept me on my toes and challenged me which overall contributed to my development and success.
My colleagues included me in all decision making and valued me as if I was a permanent team member. We relied on each other and worked well as a team.
I had 1-1 catchups with my manager and a PDR review covering my performance and how I could improve further.
Most days/weeks I was very busy working as a buying admin assistant and attending learning and development sessions to expand my knowledge further.
I was given more responsibility once I gained enough knowledge and experience this was around 3 months into my role. I was responsible for sampling, setting up for meetings, maintaining the critical path and communicating and attending meetings with suppliers.
The skills I learnt during my placement has helped me understand the industry and job role thoroughly. The training masterclass sessions held at Matalan helped me massively on placement and I was able to utilise this knowledge back at university.
The Company
Mostly positive but was stressful at times.
There was a clear structure throughout the year, helping us get the most out of our placements.
Lots of training and opportunities throughout the year.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would definitely consider working for Matalan again.
The Culture
The only time we socialised was at the Christmas party.
Average for Liverpool.
Not much nightlife in the area of Matalan's head office.
Limited opportunities outside of work.
