The Role
This was a virtual internship. However, it was still a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Aon create a perfect mix of different types of work to keep you busy. You have your actual work in your team as well. You also work on an intern project with interns from around the country. They also put on lots of learning sessions, training sessions, and story hour sessions. Everyone I worked with was incredibly friendly and made you feel valued.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They would always give me meaningful tasks and provide me with help and feedback once I had completed them. They were also always willing to give me help whenever I asked for it. I could also tell wen members of the team asked us for feedback they were genuinely interested in the answers I was giving.
I was given a lot of support by the people setting me tasks to do. I was also supported whenever I expressed an interest in learning more about a particular aspect of the business. They would always help to set up opportunities for me to experience that. Perhaps more regular feedback sessions with my manager would have been useful. However, I was given feedback after every task so I didn't really feel as though I was missing out.
I was the perfect amount of busy. I enjoyed taking on a lot of work as I wanted to learn as much as possible. However Aon is very good at ensuring you are not too over worked and can finish on time most days.
Aon give you a lot of responsibility to carry out actual work for the company (which is obviously checked over). The tasks are proper task not just things to keep you busy. This was brilliant as it gave you a real idea of what the work would actually entail if you joined full time.
The skills I received on time management, how to act professionally etc. will serve me no matter what career I go into. We also received a lot of training on the financial industry that would benefit me if that is a career I enter in to. They also put on a lot of summer learning sessions which include things like networking, how to receive feedback etc. which will be very useful.
The Company
N/A it was a virtual internship. However, from what I could tell through online meetings and social events, everyone seems very friendly.
Very well organised. You could tell a lot of thought had gone into setting up the internship, and continuing it virtually!
They invested in us a lot, we had around about 4 hours a week dedicated to structured learning/training sessions. However even on the job people took the time to properly explain the meaning behind the tasks you were carrying out.
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
I would be very keen to work here. Although the hiring process after the internship is completed seems like quite a long process.
The Culture
I think there would be if it wasn't online. There were still some social events to attend though.
N/A I worked from home.
N/A worked from home.
N/A it was a virtual internship. I did hear of activities that normally took place though like sports teams etc.
