The Role
I loved working at Pfizer. The support I received from colleagues was unreal and the opportunities provided to the undergraduates were unmatched. It helped that there were so many undergraduates (65 in total) so no one was lonely and it was an extremely tight-knit community. I could not have asked for a better placement.
My colleagues definitely valued me and provided me with a lot of work as well as valued my help with theirs. I helped a lot of colleagues with projects they were running and deadlines they had to meet.
Support is something that was very well provided through my time at Pfizer. My manager was always keen to listen to me and see what they could do to better my experience, and also other colleagues provided a shoulder if ever I needed one. Everyone was very kind and cared about my experiences.
The amount of work I had varied as at the start I did a lot of basic training (systems and practices) but sometimes I would have an overload of work and sometimes I would only have one project.
A lot of the projects I worked on were mine to lead. I found that I was given a lot of independence when it came to my work, however I could always find a helping hand if I needed one.
I have definitely developed skills for life. I thought I was good at time management and organisational skills until I started the working life. Working at Pfizer taught me valuable skills that I can now take with me into the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was so-so, I was lucky to have many undergraduates within my office so I wasn't ever lonely but had they not been there it definitely would have been quite dull.
My placement was organised very well. There was a plan for the work I would do and the areas that I'd work in for the whole year, as well as opportunities for me to learn about the different departments within the company.
I was provided with the opportunity to better my problem solving skills and my public speaking skills with training courses provided throughout the year which I will definitely take on board in the future.
Working from home
The Culture
The social scene was great. As there were so many of us we would have a night out almost weekly and those living at home would still attend and either leave early or stay the night with one of the other undergraduates.
Living in Surrey is not cheap, I think the average rent was about £650 a month each.
