The Role
I really enjoyed the Insights Week and it completely changed my mind on the department that best suited me.
All the staff we're very open and easy to approach no matter their seniority which surprised me, they all seemed to realise they were all in our situation once.
Management encouraged us all to network with as many people as possible and find out all that we could about the different departments. I ended up spending an hour on the trading floor with someone from Corporate Foreign exchange and then spent even longer with a guy from Corporate Banking after the programme had finished, both were amazingly helpful and showed me what they did on a day to day basis.
We were pretty jam packed with talks from different departments and group tasks that introduced us to areas like Sales and Trading and Corporate Banking, however there was an event planned each night that encouraged networking. I'd much rather be busy than bored.
Our programme was an insights week so we didn't have any actual work to do, however it was your responsibility to listen and find out as much information from the speakers and tasks we were set, since our knowledge of Citi products and values was tested in the AC.
The information I took in particularly from the guys in Corporate Banking and Sales and Trading have definitely helped me decide on which area I would like to work in. I also found out that some of the work I've been doing in my Financial accounting module is put to use by people in Corporate Banking.
The Company
Everyone was willing to speak to one another and help each other out despite everyone realising they were probably competing against one another. From speaking to people who worked for Citi, it seemed to be very friendly place to work.
Everything was set-up in plenty time.
They paid for hotel accommodation, train travel, all of our food and drink and the amount of staff they used to come and speak to us about their various departments and network with us at night must have cost them a fortune. I think they heavily invested in us.
Healthcare/Dental
If I manage to pass the AC then i'll be fast-tracked to the AC for the Summer Internship next year. i'd love to work for Citi on the basis of this insights week.
The Culture
Everyone got on very well, i went out for a drink after the networking had finished with a few of the people. Everyone was willing to help each other out and I made a few friends from the process.
Everything we did was paid for, we went out for a pint one night and obviously you pay London prices.
Each night a networking event was organised, we went out for a meal with employees of Citi who we could find out information about the departments in which they worked and just working for a Bank in general. The second night we went on a bus tour of the Citi and had pizza and drinks on board. Again there were people who worked for Citi to speak to whilst we were on the bus. We didn't actually have time to set up an event of our own as we were only there for 3 days, 2 nights.
