The Role
I have really enjoyed my internship at Barclays, It was a very positive and rewarding experience. I was working with a great team where everyone was very positive and encouraging. I enjoyed speaking and networking to lots of different people hearing about their career journey. I also really liked the inclusive and friendly environment of Barclays. Overall it was the most incredible work experience I have ever partaken in and it's an internship that I would definitely recommend.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. It was always noted throughout our internship that just because we were interns that did not mean we did not have a voice and our opinion was important and that we shouldn't feel afraid to speak up and give our ideas and our thoughts. Overall I felt that I was an important part of the team and that made me feel very valued, which again shows the inclusive environment of Barclays.
I was given a lot of support by my manager. We had catchups multiple times throughout the week where we would discuss our day and my manager we ask me how I was and if I was struggling with anything and was always ready to answer any of my queries through calls and emails. I was also given a lot of training for the work I had to do by my manager which also again made me feel supported.
My days were quite busy, as interns we had a number of training and speaker sessions throughout the weeks as well as networking with a number of different employees. Whilst taking part in these sessions we also had our own project to work on throughout the internship. However the sessions were very enjoyable, useful and important as well as the project I was working on, I did find it was the perfect balance and I really enjoyed my days.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility with the project I was working on which was an important project that needed to be finished quickly.
I developed a lot of important skills throughout this internship such as communication, networking, data and analytical skills all of which would help me in my degree and my career.
The Company
As the internship was virtual I was unable to be in the office but the atmosphere could still be seen as it was a very friendly, diverse and inclusive one
It was very organised especially because of the circumstances that had to be changed because of COVID-19
They did invest in me quite a lot through the training sessions on multiple different areas as well as the speaker sessions to increase our insight into our chosen business area
Future employment prospects are very appealing with the possibility of getting a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
We tried to meet virtually weekly but because of certain circumstances we could not meet in person
Nightlife in London is quite exciting but our internship took place virtually.
Yes you could get involved in the different networks as well as different charity opportunities.
