The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Barclays all be it virtually and it being held over 6 weeks rather than 9 weeks. The project that we undertook was both challenging and rewarding and really pushed me to my limits. I have also had the chance to meet some amazing people throughout my time at Barclays from my line manager to contacts in India. Everyone at the company has been exceptional and has motivated me work as hard as I can to achieve the best results.
I felt really valued by my colleagues throughout my time at Barclays. Working in a small team on the project that we have completed was one of the best aspects of the internship. I believe I have made friends for life over the last 6 weeks even though I have not had a chance to meet my team in person. I also feel as though my line manager valued me and the work that I did which was extremely encouraging.
I feel the management and support network that I had around me during my internship were extremely helpful in guiding us on how to present our work. This allowed us a sense of autonomy with regards to how we were finding out information but they were also on hand to help us if we did have stumbling blocks and pointed us in the right direction in order to make the most out of the short time that we had available.
I felt as the internship progressed we became more busy as the time progressed but this time was always filled with value adding meetings such as mandatory training, meetings with contacts for our project and virtually networking with other interns. At times it did feel as though we had a large amount of training which conflicted with our ability to speak with contacts for our project but I understand that this was due to the fact that we had a shortened amount of time on the internship.
We were given scope to learn as much about our project was we could form the given contacts and thereafter we were allowed to speak to contacts we also found on out own
It has helped me with regards to my approach to work and how to gain the most amount of information in a short space of time
The Company
the future prospects are very exciting. Listening to some of the graduates and senior team members and hearing that they have gone through other banks and chosen Barclays as the one they are the happiest at and where they feel the most fulfilled is very encouraging. Also the fact that the culture at Barclays is more based around the ideas that you bring to the table rather than overall experience is nice to see in a company
