About You
It was a bit difficult to adjust straight from the beginning to the working life at Barclays since the internship was virtual, but everyone was so supportive and immediately figured out a way to keep me involved. My manager offered me a great framework and a way to conduct my activities without feeling lost, offered just the right degree of support and everyone was so open to network and share their experiences virtually with us.
Everyone I have worked with offered me valuable feedback and the work I was given challenged me in a way that made me learn. Understanding the team dynamics was easier since everyone tried to answer all of my questions and offer me additional information.
I had daily calls with my manager and calls once evert 2 days with everyone else that I was working with on my projects. I was offered enough time to work individually, yet always felt part of the team.
I was offered valuable insight into the company, understood how the work moved to a digital environment and learnt how to manage my diary. Having meetings, setting up weekly calls and understanding when to follow up and how to set up the next steps of a project improved my communication skills.
The Company
The virtual experience received a lot of structure from my manager. He went beyond and offered me support in every way. The speaker sessions and Team Working sessions were equally interesting, yet the fact that they were mandatory made my schedule fuller than I would have expected.
It was a nice environment, I have obviously missed the in-person activities and socialising, but I believe that since the world is going digital in the future, this was a great way to dive straight into the world of remote work and understand all the relevant changes that happened. As much as I would have wished to meet all of the people I've interacted with in real life, I also believe that this internship has gone beyond my expectations and I am excited about my future with Barclays.
