About You
I thought it was a really enjoyable experience because of how well planned it was. I found the days were structured really well to help us get the most out of the scheme and this made it very enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the online socials that were put in place to help us get to know the other people on the scheme. This was a really nice touch that helped me connect with the others in the group!
Everyone was really happy to help me when I got stuck on the tasks. People were also really friendly and made themselves available via email and number even outside the allocated time-frames for contact. This made me feel like they really cared about my experience with the firm and valued me as a potential trainee which was really lovely. I never felt like I was just allocated to someone who didn't want to be involved. All the supervisors seemed really keen.
There was lots of guidance and support and we were constantly reminded to reach out if we were unsure or had any questions which was really lovely. Furthermore, the support that was given was fantastic. I was given very detailed responses with examples of how my work should be presented which really helped me to understand what was being asked of me. Support was given from the supervisors as well as the trainees which made it extra helpful!
I think the skills that I have developed over the course of the scheme will help me when I do the GDL next year as I know have a greater understanding of how the content I will be learning can be implemented in a practical context. I also feel that I have developed my networking skills over the duration of the course and increased my confidence in asking questions and discussing current legal cases and commercial events.
The Company
It was incredibly well structured, especially given the current circumstances. I was worried that the vacation scheme might be cancelled as I had heard that had happened to other individuals so I was very excited when I heard that this one was going ahead. The team did a fantastic job at creating a really well planned out virtual scheme. The social events were an added bonus which really gave us a chance to unwind and get to know people.
Everyone was so keen and eager to get involved which really made it a great atmosphere to be a part of. We were encouraged to email if we had any difficulties which really helped me feel comfortable as it was clear the grad rec team genuinely cared about our experience on the scheme as individuals rather than just another cohort. It was clear what a lively and friendly atmosphere Denton's has even through a computer screen.
The firm put lots of effort into the scheme and they organised lunchtime seminars which were very insightful
I think it really showed what a lovely atmosphere Denton's has and that gave me a really valuable insight into what it would be like to have a full time position at the firm as a trainee. It really highlighted for me the importance of being part of a friendly, open company that genuinely cares about you as an individual and is invested in your personal development. I would recommend the scheme to anyone looking to apply for a TC.
I think this gave me a really big insight into the culture that Denton's is trying to cultivate and the importance they place on diversity and inclusion was really lovely to see. It made it clear that it wasn't just about hitting quotas but genuinely fostering an environment where all members are able to feel comfortable to express themselves and their ideas. I think this is a truly unique and rewarding culture to be a part of.
It has really helped me to think about my future and given me a clearer vision of what a training contract would be like.
Everything Else
Yes!
Yes! As much as possible considering it was online. If there was anyone we were particularly interested in talking to we were told to get in touch!
Social events were fantastic! It was a lovely way to get to know people and it was a really nice way to meet new people despite being in lock-down. It showed me how the firm really goes out of it's way to create a fun, positive dynamic for it's employees. The socials worked really well online and splitting us into teams was really helpful as it allowed us to get to know each other better.
Yes, I was told about the extra-curricular and pro-bono activities in place! It sounds like each office has it's own activities available but I was really pleased to hear that Trainees get the option to be involved in organising social and deciding what to spend the budget it on. The pro-bono activities also seemed really nice and varied and covered a wide range of different situations which sound clearly differentiated from the usual firm work.
Yes! Definitely!
