About You
I really enjoyed the virtual experience! The recruitment team provided a range of talks and activities for us over the week, covering everything from presentation skills, what life at EY would be like, an interactive case study over the week in small teams as well as a session on mindfulness and meditation! There was absolutely something for everyone in the virtual experience and I feel that I learnt huge amounts.
Personally I felt as though all of the interns were valued highly. We were encouraged to provide our opinions as much as possible where relevant, and I feel that whenever I shared my own thoughts they were listened to and built upon by the other interns as well as the Early Careers team. There was also a lot of use of tools like Mentimeter, allowing us to be more interactive and share thoughts which personally made me feel valued on the programme.
Loads of support over the week, from technical difficulties that come with working virtually (Microsoft teams did not always cooperate) as well as answering any questions on the challenges set. We were each assigned a buddy to have a 1:1 session with, providing extremely tailored support to answer a range of questions. As well as this, for our case study we were assigned a mentor who guided us with our presentation and was extremely useful!
I feel I have learnt a huge amount over the 5days, and the skills I have developed will absolutely be applicable in loads of ways going forward. The challenges of working with new teams all online, presenting virtually have all been useful as a result of the internship being moved online. I have learnt new skills such as how to present effectively, tips for studying for professional qualifications as well as how to manage my time efficiently, to name a few. All of these will be useful going Into my final year of uni and the working world.
The Company
I think the structure worked well - broadly speaking we spent the mornings learning from EY professionals about a range of topics, and spent the afternoons working on our case studies in smaller groups. At the end of each day we were given the structure for the following day. I think one way I would improve the experience would be if we had been given the timetable for the week slightly more in advance, allowing time for a bit of research/preparation for the sessions (although not needed I think it would have allowed me to really maximise the experience)
Very positive, the team were all extremely approachable and relaxed and I enjoyed the atmosphere of no silly questions! The speakers were also all very engaging and interesting, and the internship really gave credit to the great environment EY seems to be.
There was little opportunity just over the week, but each session was tailored to help with our personal and professional development We learnt how to develop soft skills like presenting, how to manage time efficiently, tips for studying for professional qualification, how high performing teams work and more. My EY buddy provided lots of insight into how to navigate starting at EY, her experiences and answered my questions. Working in the case study also developed team work and virtual presentation skills
I think the week was a great insight into life at EY. there were a whole host of talks on joining as a graduate, where a career at EY could take you and stories from individual experiences. A Q&A panel was hosted by some 2nd year associates which was great insight into what it was like to join EY. I also really enjoyed speaking with my buddy and hearing about her individual experiences. The case study too showed the sort of work we would be doing at EY
The experience aligned well with EY’s values. I enjoyed hearing about the importance of diversity and inclusion at EY, and what a supportive environment it is for a woman in professional services. The culture seems highly inclusive, with the opportunity to join ‘networks’ supporting groups which can often be minorities. We also were exposed to the culture of giving back to society, by learning about the EY foundation and how we as employees have the opportunity to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get into university or the workplace
Very valuable. The experience solidified that I would love to begin my career at EY, and within financial services consulting. EY has really stood out to me and demonstrated their commitment to new starters. It has been hugely challenging to put a 6week placement online and yet it has still been very engaging and enjoyable. I look forward to completing my final year at uni and hopefully beginning my career at EY in the near future!
Everything Else
Networking was highly encouraged! From an intern standpoint, I was able to network and get close with the small group I worked with on the case study, and feel like we all built real relationships over the 5days. All of the speakers over the week encouraged us to reach out and connect on LinkedIn, and were warm and open for advice and to answer questions. My EY buddy has also become a real connection between myself and EY, and I am sure we will stay in touch beyond the placement.
We had lots of opportunities to network with other interns both within our service line and also from other sectors beyond financial consulting. This was both in the general talks as well as the case study which we worked on. We interacted loads with the early careers time, who all seem much more familiar than at the start of the week! Moving beyond that we had the opportunity to ask our buddy questions, which was very useful.
Yes! We learnt lots about EY networks - ways to support minority groups in the workplace. Networks such as EY Women, Unity etc support females and LGTBQ+ employees and there are many more networks to get involved with. Each hold events for networking and fundraising, showing what a supportive and inclusive environment EY is. The EY foundation also demonstrated that employees are encouraged to get involved with charity work and support the community outside of work
Absolutely! Anyone would be so fortunate to take part in the EY internship. Whilst at times it was very intense and a jam-packed schedule, i learnt a huge amount and really feel I developed over the week. Whether you are set on your career path or still unsure, this week was really informative and gave lots of inside info that is difficult to access without speaking to individuals working at the firm itself. Would absolutely recommend to anyone,!
