The Role
Was very informative and had plenty of opportunities to get engaged and find out more. We had plenty of interactive work which was great despite working from home. With this engagement I felt that I was part of the team and with this I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Everything we did over the week was purposeful and perfect for us. We developed ourselves from the get go which meant I felt like a valued participant. And we received lots of opportunities to be heard and participate which added to this. Overall, throughout the week I felt far more confident in this setting and felt that I have not only been able to build a network but with the case study group actually made some friends which was something I did not expect.
On the case study task we got some great input from our buddy on the second day which was really useful. However, she had not prepared much beforehand (ie did not know the case study) which somewhat let the side down. Everyone else I encountered gave lots of support and feedback. Giving really insightful answers when asked questions and ultimately being really supportive when just appearing as a friendly face, if not anything else. Thank-you!
We had a jam packed schedule. Each day was very well set out with lots of tasks to complete each day. Whether it was a talk to listen to or to work on the case study... I did not once feel bored and felt everything had a real value added. Another thing I deem important to note was the breaks we were allowed to have to prevent us from staring at our screens for the whole period. This broke up the day nicely and enabled my concentration to remain over all of our different sessions which I greatly appreciated.
Our main responsibility was to be on time for each of the calls and to produce our case study work. In this circumstance, I don’t think we could have really been given more responsibility than this but had we had the 6 week internship I would have expected a bit more. I appreciated that we had lower responsibility since we were having to be particularly flexible -working and interning from home. The case study though was definitely a great addition to the scheme.
I particularly enjoyed all of the big sessions we had on soft skills. These were very informative and also demonstrated the skills we were aiming to acquire. The presentation/performing element I have already had the opportunity to use in the case study but I am sure to use them in any presentations in the future. The other talks on health and mindfulness and education opportunities have also been something that have made me think about how I wish to live in the future so will help me be a better person and worker in the future.
The Company
It was an extremely positive place in which people were always friendly and offering to help. However, as expected in this environment they had expectations and expressed these clearly which I very much appreciated. They made this entire internship fun and enjoyable which was absolutely brilliant. Even in times of real seriousness I felt a very positive vibe... A big Thankyou to the student recruitment team for all of their efforts for I had had the most amazing time across the internship!
With a clear agenda each day, I would say that the internship was very well pieced together. We constantly had tasks to do and talks to listen to. However the only issue came when something finished early or over ran. Once or twice I felt I was ‘late’ for something because something else had over ran. This though was not the fault of the planning team but rather time management of the individuals who were conducting that part of the day.
With all of the soft skills talks and feedback I feel a lot of money has been invested in me. The amount of time and effort spent on the talks is very much appreciated by me. I have to say, though, a lot of time was spent on advertising the grad scheme (which seemed great of course and I really hope I can be a part of) but sometimes I felt we were focusing a lot on this rather than improving ourselves?
Working from home
You have all really sold me on the graduate scheme. With the people centric ethos of the firm, the opportunities to develop and the type of people and learning that I could be engaged with is really something I am interested in and hope to be able to take advantage of. Being made aware of the grad scheme to such an extent has even further fuelled my desire to become a part of EY in the coming years.
The Culture
Each day we all did get an opportunity to talk outside the agenda and the tasks for the day which was good. With my case study group we became very social having exchanged numbers for the task. Unfortunately due to corona We could not have been any more social so the extent of social scenes was as good as it could be under the circumstances. Despite this though it was always a very positive place.
We were working from home so this was just as it was under a normal scenario. So there’s nothing that can be done to change this at all.
Once again this was not really applicable since the coronavirus prevented any of this. I would have expected the London scene would have been outstanding. But yes, overall, this is not really something applicable.
Yes lots of opportunities. We greatly communicated with one another outside the working day through social media. I have been lucky enough to make some friends in which we are planning to meet once the corona virus thing all blows over. I hope that if I were to make it to the grad scheme we would be able to take more of an advantage of this!
