About You
I was initially sceptical about doing an online internship compared to one in person, as I’d never really used online video calls or anything so wasn’t sure how it was going to work. However I have really enjoyed the virtual experience and I think it has worked really well and has been organised to a very high standard in the current circumstances. I was very impressed with all the different activities they managed to pack into one week.
I think they managed to go a very good job at including everyone in the internship considering there was over 100 of us. I understand it would of been very difficult to set us actual work for EY so I liked how they set us the case study task so we felt as if we were working for EY which made me feel valued. The fact that EY staff took time out their busy work schedules to participate in things such as panel sessions really made us feel important and valued too.
The student recruitment team were amazing at supporting everyone and answering any questions and helping with any technical issues. I had technical issues On the first day and one of the student recruitment team personally called me to help sort my issues out so I think it’s great that they offered such a high level of support throughout the whole week. All EY staff we heard from were more than happy to answer any questions and were all so friendly it made me feel very supported.
I have learnt a lot this week in the learning and development sessions, not something I was expecting to get out of this week as I didn’t know something like that would be included. I particularly liked the session on presentation skills as this is something I struggle with and I got some really great tips from that with Ritchie. This will be very useful going into my 4th year at uni when I will be participating in presentations.
The Company
I think it was excellent how the student recruitment team put this all together and you can tell a lot of hard work had been put into making it all run as smoothly as it did. I think the layout of the days worked really well as well, where in the morning we listened to lots of different talks and then in the afternoon we got to interact with some of the other interns and mentors/buddies in smaller groups which gave us a good mix of things to be involved in
It was always very positive. The student recruitment team were always there and checking in with everyone to make sure no one had any issues at all which made it a very positive atmosphere. All the EY staff we heard from were very enthusiastic about what they were speaking out making it very interesting to listen to what they were saying, there was never a dull moment or talk! I think with everyone being so friendly it really made EY seem like a great place to work
A lot of different EY staff from different areas took a lot of valuable time out of their day to be able to speak to us and I think this really shows that the company as a whole really invested into this summer internship. As well as giving us talks specific to Assurance, they also allowed us to learn in new ways through the learning and development talks which shows that not only they wanted us to learn about Assurance but were also interested in our personal development
I was also sceptical about It being online and whether I would know At the end of it whether I would like to continue a career in assurance which is the reason I applied to the internship so I could get a feel for the job. However I have learnt so so much this week about EY and assurance that I really feel this virtual experience has given me a good understanding of what it’s like to work at EY
I really got to learn about what it’s like to work for EY and all the different networks they have that include everyone who works there. I didn’t realise how invested EY was in diversity and inclusiveness but I have learnt a lot about that this week and how important it is to EY as a company. Also the talk on health EY really taught me how invested EY are in their staff and their health and well-being of the staff
It was very helpful in this as I have definitely learnt a lot about the company and different roles it offers. I am still not 100% sure what service line I would maybe be interested in however after this week I have discovered I would really like to work for EY in the future as it’s obviously a company who is so invested in their staff and really care about all their staff, and this really appeals to me
Everything Else
I was paid for this experience which I didn’t think was necessary on EYs part as it was them who put all the time and effort into putting this experience together. However I do think it was good they still committed to paying us considering the 6 week internship was cancelled and there would have been some people relying on that salary. I feel very lucky to have been able to take part of the internship so the pay was not important to me
There was endless opportunities to meet people from all different areas of EY and ask them all different questions. I especially liked being able to meet with buddies and mentors during the week where it was a bit more informal and you could ask any questions you wanted in a relaxed environment. There was way more opportunities than I had expected and the student recruitment team had set that all up to work really well
They were really good, we didn’t just hear from people at EY but we were also given the chance to ask them any questions we needed to and they also all offered to add them on linkedin which is a really good way to network. My mentor was so friendly in the mentor sections So these opportunities were also great to have and she was so helpful in answering every question we had to ask her
Yes we learnt all about the different networks that EY has and it sounds like there are loads of different opportunities so there is something for everyone Also hearing about all the different social events each office puts on for their staff was good to know that everyone socialises outside the office as well as at work
Definitely this has been such an insightful week and more than anything I would of expected of a virtual experience so I would definitely recommended
