About You
I enjoyed all the events, panels, and sessions hosted during the virtual experience. All the activities were fun and interactive, and gave an interesting insight into EY and the Assurance service line. The Assurance case study I took part in allowed me to work in a team of five and form new connections while discovering new technical concepts. The steep learning curve combined with the team project made the week a very enjoyable virtual experience.
EY made the interns feel very welcomed from the first session and had interactive sessions that allowed us to engage and share our ideas. There were lots of opportunities to ask question and learn, which made me feel very valued in the firm. We were assigned buddies and mentors, and worked in teams as well on a case study which made me feel like a part of a team and form real connections that I could take forward.
We were assigned a buddy and a mentor to advise and guide us through the internship and answer any questions, concerns or doubts that we had. On the Assurance case study, there were many concepts that were new to me which I asked my mentor and was given immediate feedback and support. The HR also made sure all our questions regarding the culture and work at EY were answered and supported us throughout the internship.
I am currently studying Economics and have two accounting modules to complete during my undergraduate programme. The techincal accounting knowledge that I gained from the internship would allow me to excel in those courses as I already have received the basic understanding of accounting models and conventions from the internship programme. I also developed soft skills like presentation, teamwork, and time management that would benefit me both at university and any other career that I pursue.
The Company
The internship was very well structured with having a welcome session on the first day that introduced EY as an organisation and the agenda for the week of the internship. We had daily learning and training sessions that helped develop our soft skills such as time management, presentation, and teamwork. We also got to interact with employees at EY, from recent Assurance graduates to senior partners at the firm. This allowed us to learn about the culture at the firm and life as a audit graduate at EY.
The atmosphere was very positive as all the EY representatives were excited to share their experiences at the firm and advise us on our potential graduate schemes. The interns including me were very curious to learn and asked questions throughout the programme. We were interested in Assurance and that developed an excitement to learn more about the service line. The culture was also very collaborative as felt in the group case study, where we got an hour each day to work in our team during the project.
We got around 2 training sessions per day during the internship where EY speakers excelling in their respective field gave us talks about developing our competency-based skills like presentation, time management, and teamwork. I found out quite a lot of good tips from these training sessions that I believe would help me in both my personal and professional life going forward. We also had a session on meditation to teach us how to relax when anxious!
Speaking to EY Assurance Graduates and Senior Partners from the firm gave me a solid understanding of role and the culture at the firm. Working with a mentor and buddy during my case study project enhanced my understanding of the role as a professional audit and what qualifications I will be studying towards in my graduate programme. There were plenty of networking opportunities and training sessions that allowed me to individually and in a group ask questions to EY employees.
