The Role
I really enjoyed it! Despite the fact that this internship was shortened from 6 weeks to 1 week, I appreciate the teams effort to compile everything into this one week. It was jam packed with all aspects of consulting covered as well as the future prospects in the company. The interactive case study session was quite useful and the morning quizzes were also quite fun! Everything just helped me make the most out of this time.
My colleagues really appreciated the work and praised anything I did. Simultaneously they also provided guidance as to what we were supposed to do next and they were there every step of the way. Even during the case study sessions, everyone was really supportive and helped the team achieve the final goal quite well. If anything was needed, everyone was there to help each other even if it was as small as conveying someone’s message incase their mike wasn’t working.
Right from the get go, the management was all hands on deck! [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] helped us settle in every morning and had some sort of an ice breaker planned so morning sessions won’t seem boring and then they were always present to help us if we had technical difficulties or did not understand any particular terms. Supervisors also guided us through the case study and that in itself was quite useful as the feedback was always constructive.
Everyday from day 9 in the morning to 4pm, we had one thing or another. Since this was virtual and at home, a lot of times I could just get up and grab a coffee. It even incorporated comfort breaks alongside lunch breaks which was super useful as these allowed me to stretch my legs, grab some water etc. At the end of each day, we knew the agenda for the next day so could plan out things accordingly!
Well this one was online so I wouldn’t say there was a lot of responsibility. In terms of being present for sessions and making sure the mike was off was important but not any direct communication with any client. We did have a case study session but not sure if that was for a real client or just to help us understand the field a bit more. So not too much responsibility for one week but it was fun!
I think some of the skills that were definitely important were teamwork, communication, time management and problem solving. I feel like I polished these skills here and would definitely apply these in any degree I continue to pursue in the future. At the same time, I brushed up my presentation skills quite a bit since I learned many aspects of a presentation that I was previously unaware of so that was definitely a thumbs up from me!
The Company
The atmosphere was always lively in this virtual office. The mindfulness session that’s as held in the middle was quite useful to just take a break from the screen and relax. I think every internship should have one! Even teammates were quite excited and the energy was quite evident even on the last day of the internship so I quite liked the atmosphere in general. Everybody was just trying to keep everyone happy and calming their nerves all the time with different sessions!
The idea of originally introducing the company and every day revealing more and more about it was quite useful. I think the incorporation of a 1-1 buddy session helped me gain insight about the company that I might not have been able to by just surfing the internet. There were lots of questions I had about the company and sometimes I was nervous to email someone but here you could just post anonymously on chat and someone would respond really quickly!
The firm invested quite a bit in our wellbeing as well as our experience. This was quite evident just by how well structured it was and also how much time each team member was willing to give. Some buddies even shared their details for any further questions and so many people connected on LinkedIn to grow this network which I never could have done without this firm wanting to give us the best possible experience we could have
Working from home
Future prospects are quite bright because they have multiple programs but also the grad scheme information they provided was quite useful. At the same time they explained how welcoming the firm is so it attracts an individual even more towards it. At the same time, I feel that the vast amount of networks and flexibility this firm is willing to offer is beyond my expectations and I am definitely attracted towards EY for a future career!
The Culture
Not really apart from the case study sessions and extra time we spent on call! I think the reason for that is the virtual nature of this internship and the pandemic being present, it is very difficult to socialise in person since not everyone will be that comfortable. Another thing is that work from home means our team can be in different parts of the country so the best option was just to have morning quizzes and chats!
Cannot comment much on this
It’s online and I’m in London so the nightlife is quite good but due to the pandemic, a lot of things are closed and a lot of people have dispersed across the country so it has been quite difficult to really have that great of a nightlife. At the same time, if your mates live nearby and you’re in the same place, one could just hangout together and enjoy their time quite a bit so that shouldn’t be a problem!
