    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
  • Really enjoyable. The staff I have met have really made the experience. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity as many Internships have been cancelled due to social distancing, EY did not disappoint. I have met so many new people, from other Interns to EY Staff from across the board who have allowed me to learn so much. I was nervous to join this Virtual Internship but now its over I can look back and confidently say I am proud of myself and have enjoyed my time.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • EY have made it clear across the week that Staff are their priority, I have been able to join many panel sessions and Q&A's where this was made evident. From explaining about how EY train and educate staff, to travel opportunities and mental health. They have taken the time to show us a range of ways in which they value their staff and take the time to listen to members of staff. You are treated as an individual and not just a number, much different to many other big firms.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the virtual experience?
  • During the week I was able to email any queries I had to the recruitment team who were always quick to understand and respond. We also had chats that allowed us to ask any questions, whether it be troubleshooting queries or general curiosity. I could not fault how helpful the team have been, especially as I am someone who is quick to panic which leaves me wanting lots of questions answered. Every single person I have met has been honest and welcomed all questions.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I currently study Accounting and Finance so working this week on projects that directly allow me to apply my Uni knowledge has been great. Also, I am able to take away from this experience hands on experience, not only in the Service Line I joined but also in other areas such as Networking. I feel much more confident returning to my degree in September with this new hands on experience I have received in the last week.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the virtual experience?
  • Everyday was jam packed with different activities, we always had something to be doing and always with new people which was great. At the end of each day we were given our timetabled agenda for the next day which was really handy. As it was a Virtual Experience we were required to access different calls throughout the day but we were always contacted in advance with the links and how to's. I never felt bored or out of the loop.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your virtual experience?
  • Everyone was so upbeat which was so refreshing, especially regarding the current global climate. I felt so happy and involved in the team which is something I was originally worried about. Staff and other Interns were very supportive of one another from day one, this helped break the ice but also helped me become more confident working in my team. We had lots of activities that involved networking or taking part and this really helped boost morale.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As this week was more based on learning about EY and the service line, due to social distancing, we were less able to learn 'on the job'. However, EY was aware of this and let us take part in a group project where we got a taste of what working for EY would be like which was fantastic. During this we also got to receive feedback from several members of the EY team, this is where I would say I got to learn the most.

  • 8. To what extent did the virtual experience help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I have always wanted to work in accounting so naturally EY was my first port of call. However, I was never really sure what the company or role was truly like; being able to hear from staff of all ages, across all offices and positions was really educational. We have been able to ask questions throughout the week regarding the firm so everyones questions were directly answered. This is something I found other companies dont offer.

  • 9. How much did the virtual experience help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As mentioned before, we got to be involved in many talks which also included educational presentations. During these we got professionally presented information about company culture, diversity, inclusion and hoe EY cares about its staff. This showed me how much EY value staff and I believe this is vital to company culture. Also we were able to learn directly about the job and its perks which also provided an understanding on the topic of culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I have always known that accounting and finance was where I wanted to head after graduating, over the last year or so I wasn't sure if I wanted to follow accounting or finance more. After the week I've had I feel as though I have fell back in love with accounting and hope to continue my passion (since a very young age) of becoming an auditor. I truly hope that also means continuing my path with EY.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I find most Internships are unpaid which can be a little bit of a kick in the teeth for students, but the experience is incredibly value. Since day one (even when this originally was a 6 week programme) I have known it was paid which is a bonus! Even during the interview process, when I had to attend an interview day, I was reimburse any travel expenses and provided with lunch. I believe this shows how EY care.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We did some form of networking every day, it was a really nice break from learning or taking part in our projects. It also allowed me to have questions answered directly by EY staff but make new connections and friends along the way. This really helped show company culture and learn more interactively about the firm but also meet people I might potentially be working with in the future which has really helped with my confidence.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Really good, I was unsure if it would be more awkward due to it being a virtual situation but it wasn't. Everyone involved was extremely welcoming and respectful of each other which is so encouraging if you are more anxious about networking situations. Due to the current coronavirus situation and social distancing there weren't any social event opportunities but we were made aware of social events that would normally occur which sounded really fun and engaging.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We had several talks about the different social activities staff can take part in as well as clubs that you can join within the firm. It sounds as though there are opportunities to have fun for everyone, some are created by the firm but it also seems as though staff get on really well with their teams and take it upon themselves to arrange after work social events. They all sound so friendly and willing to involve new recruits.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this virtual experience to a friend?
  • 100%. Since taking part in this Internship I have told all my friends (who are soon to be graduates or school leavers) to look at EY careers and see if there is anything suited to them to apply for. I obviously cannot provide a comprehensive review of what its like to work at EY as I have only experienced a week but in that week I have learned so much and would confidently recommend anyone to join.
